Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is widely believed by some individuals that smoking can cause serious health issues and authorities should regulate law against this and made this illegal. From my perspective, smoking is detrimental for health and it is the responsibility of authorities to reduce the ratio of smoking because it reduces the burden in hospital, lessesn the expenditures in hospitals, create a healtheir environment for future generations, it also reduces the ratio of disease.
It is argued by some people that smoking is harmful and it causes health issues. Most of the young people started smoking in very ealy age and this addicting increased over time. Consequently, it affected lungs and dangerous for heart, it works like a slow poisioning in human beings and most of the people died because of the lung cancer and with heart disease. It is not only affecting the smokers, it also affects others as well. For instance, the children are considers as a half smoker if their parents are frequently smoking, because it affects them.
Furthermore, it should be ensured by authorities to regulate law against smoking industries and made this illegal. If smoking rate is reduced it should be beneficial for government because it will reduce the expenditure on health care. It will lessen the death ratio and significant for human lives. Moreover, reducing the ratio of smoking means it will be beneficial for young generation and they will not face any health issues in future.
To conclude this, I firmly believe that smoking should be discouraged by the authorities and individuals as it may cause health issues such as, lung cancer and heart disease. The regulation will play a vital rule for future generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you agree that smoking is harmful and that authorities should act to reduce it. You address health effects, second-hand smoke, and possible benefits to public healthcare, so the response remains relevant to the question. The examples of lung cancer, heart disease, and children exposed to parental smoking help explain your view. However, the task asks whether smoking should be made illegal, while your conclusion says it should be “discouraged” and the body mainly discusses reducing smoking rates. This leaves the extent of your agreement with a legal ban insufficiently clear. Develop this distinction and explain why prohibition, rather than regulation or discouragement, is justified; some claims about costs and future generations also need fuller support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from health harms to government action, and signposts such as “Furthermore” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and several points are repeated, particularly the claims that smoking harms health and that reducing it benefits young people. The opening sentence also combines several reasons in a long list, making the relationship between them difficult to follow. Some references are unclear, as in “this addicting increased over time” and “the regulation,” which does not specify what regulation is meant. Group related reasons more clearly, use linking expressions selectively, and make references to policies and effects explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “detrimental,” “expenditure,” “lung cancer,” “heart disease,” and “future generations.” These choices show an attempt to go beyond basic wording, and the main message is usually understandable. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, word forms, and spelling reduce precision. For example, “lessesn the expenditures in hospitals” is not a natural way to express lower healthcare costs, while “slow poisioning” and “half smoker” are unsuitable or unclear expressions. There are also spelling errors such as “ealy,” “healtheir,” and “poisioning.” Build a more reliable range of topic-specific phrases and check spelling and collocations so that your ideas sound precise and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including cause-and-effect structures with “because” and “Consequently,” and the overall meaning can usually be followed. Some sentences, however, contain several grammatical problems that make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “it reduces the burden in hospital, lessesn the expenditures in hospitals, create a healtheir environment” shifts between verb forms and lacks consistent parallel structure. In “the children are considers as a half smoker,” the verb form and number agreement are inaccurate; “it affected lungs and dangerous for heart” also lacks a clear, correctly formed clause. Work on subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles, and constructing complete clauses. Separating long sentences and checking each clause would improve accuracy while preserving variety.
