Student answer (Band 6.0)

Everyone in the world knows that smoking is really bad for health . It is not only bad for the person who is smoking but also for the peoples who are sitting or are around that person because passive smoking can also hurt other peoples. When people buy ciggarete pack every one can see it is also mentioned on that back that is not good for health and it kills . But people still smoke. I usually sit and think about that why peoples smoke? Why they buy something with money which is not good for there health and people near to them. There are many examples we hear news on tv or social media how it damages lungs and how it is injurious still we are not thinkling about that.

Smoking can cause different typr of illness like lung cancer , throat cancer it can also damage you liver so it should have been made illegal a lot earlier. Because if anyone regardless of gender smoke and they get ill or got infected by any ofb these above above listed diseases it pretty much chance that it can also effect there coming generations. So a person who smokes is not risking his/ her life but also the lives of his comintg generations. So its time to take some strict actions against such a bad thing.

Its never too late ourt government should take strict actions against manufacturerd and sellers of such thing and it should be banned like other drugs because according to some researchs peoples who drugs start from smoking.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position that smoking should be illegal. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. While you mention health risks and the impact on future generations, the arguments lack depth and academic support. For instance, the claim that smoking leads to drug use is mentioned but not explained or supported with evidence. To improve, focus on extending your arguments with specific examples or logical consequences rather than repeating the same points about health. The response is a bit informal in tone, which affects the overall persuasiveness of the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. Transitions between sentences are often abrupt, and there is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas logically. For example, the transition between the health risks and the call for government action is quite sudden. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the use of 'that' and 'such thing' without clear antecedents. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'ciggarete', 'typr', 'thinkling', 'comintg', 'manufacturerd') and word choice issues (e.g., 'peoples' instead of 'people', 'effect' instead of 'affect'). The language is somewhat repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'bad' and 'good'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and ensure correct spelling. Focusing on collocations and avoiding informal phrasing will significantly enhance your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'peoples who drugs start'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing before periods and commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar limits the score. To improve, focus on mastering sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common errors like article usage and verb forms.
