Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 94 words long. Consequently, the ideas are severely underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth and supporting evidence required for an academic essay. While the student takes a clear position, the arguments are presented in a very superficial manner without sufficient elaboration or examples. To improve, the student must expand on their points by providing detailed explanations, real-world examples, and a more structured argument that addresses the complexity of the prompt. The current length prevents the response from fully addressing all parts of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into two short paragraphs, which is insufficient for a standard essay structure. While there is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', and 'In addition', the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. The logical flow is hindered by the lack of development, making the overall structure feel fragmented. To improve, the student should focus on creating a clear introduction, distinct body paragraphs with topic sentences, and a concluding summary to ensure a more coherent and logical progression of arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to convey complex ideas. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'sever' instead of 'severe', 'ban' instead of 'banned', and 'decleared' instead of 'declared'. The phrase 'have addicted of drugs' is grammatically incorrect and demonstrates a lack of control over collocations. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary, focusing on more precise academic terms and ensuring correct word forms and spelling. Using a wider variety of synonyms would also help to improve the overall quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'All kinds of drugs are prohibited for health and cause of sever illnesses' and 'young generation have addicted of drugs'. The sentence structures are simple and lack the variety of complex forms expected at higher levels. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and practicing the use of complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, while paying closer attention to proofreading for minor errors.
