Student answer (Band 6.0)
As per my opinion smoking causes serious illness on various organs present in the body and it should be made illegal. However in our country the smoking is legalized many years ago as it became a primary income for the government and also it has become a monopoly business for many rich mans in our country.
As of now in our country there are different age groups including the Millennials, Gen-z kids. These are the people with age groups of 15-60 years who prefer different types of brands and different types of flavors according to their taste's. In todays generation even girls are also started smoking which is a very bad sign so far. Therefore due to this which leads to serious causes like cancer issues, women facing problems while giving birth to babies and most importantly even though there is caution on the smoking pack they are avoiding like a just piece of paper which should taken serious action in eliminating the smoking.
I wanted to mention few examples where there are certain articles which have been published over the time but no one cares about those. These articles highlighted certain points like in our country have smoking rate has gone to 20% to 84% in the between [redacted phone] in the span of 8 years the rate of smoking rose to 64% in todays date. It is also mentioned that there are 4 deaths everyday on an average due to cancer caused by smoking. But there is also light shown some positivity that todays Gen-z generation are mostly fitness freak and they hate smoking and which becomes an good sign.
overall, I wanna conclude the by the statement that i believe that its better to eliminate the smoking which causes serious illness.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by stating a clear position that smoking should be illegal. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you provide some statistics and mention the economic impact, the arguments lack depth and logical progression. The discussion regarding 'Millennials' and 'Gen-z' is somewhat tangential and does not directly support the argument for illegality. Furthermore, the essay lacks a formal structure, and the conclusion is very brief. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed argument that directly supports your stance, and provide a more comprehensive summary of your main points in the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow between and within them is weak. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive or used incorrectly, such as starting sentences with 'As of now' or 'Therefore due to this'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. Paragraphing is present, but the transitions between the economic argument, the demographic observations, and the statistical data are abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic phrasing and some informal language, such as 'rich mans' and 'fitness freak'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, for example, 'serious causes' instead of 'serious consequences' and 'monopoly business'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of errors in word formation limit the score. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more academic terminology appropriate for an IELTS essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('smoking are legalized'), article usage ('the smoking'), and tense inconsistencies ('smoking rate has gone to 20% to 84%'). Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with the misuse of apostrophes ('taste's') and commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to distract the reader. To reach a higher band, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles.
