Student answer (Band 6.0)
Smoking can cause serious illness and should be made illegal as it is harmful and dangerous for the people who smoke as well as for the others living in their surroundings.
I agree to this point of view totally as I can see the impacts of smoking on the persons around me . They are suffering from serious health issues that they are not even able to quit their habit of smoking because they are too much addicted to smoking.
Smoking is be dangerous to their lungs as well as it will be harmful for other body parts also as it is taking through inhaling process of the smokers . it also creates danger for the passive smokers , people who are not addicted to it personally but they are living with active smokers. The health of both is at risk due to this addiction of the smokers . To some extent it will be relaxing for the active smokers as they are habitual of it and they feel relaxed by fulfilling their body's need but it will be a lifetime threat to them and their family . People should aware of the possible risks of their smoking so then they will be able to not go towards this dangerous addiction . Government should make rules and also the ways through which they should be followed in the society to avoid harmful risks of smoking and its effects on the lives of people living in our society . So that we can live a healthy life and make our loved ones feel secure and happy.
In my opinion it should be illegal because i saw my uncle living a life which is miserable due to his addiction of smoking and also other people are some ones relatives and loved once and they cause trouble for them as well by their habit of smoking.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position in favor of banning smoking. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. While you mention health risks and the impact on passive smokers, the arguments are not fully extended with specific evidence or logical progression. The conclusion is personal rather than analytical, which limits the academic tone required for Task 2. To improve, focus on providing more structured arguments, such as the economic burden on healthcare systems or the effectiveness of legislative bans in other countries, rather than relying solely on personal anecdotes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow between sentences is often disjointed. Transitions are limited, and the connection between ideas is sometimes mechanical (e.g., 'So that we can live...'). The use of cohesive devices is basic, and some referencing is unclear, such as the transition into the final paragraph which feels abrupt. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked using a wider variety of cohesive devices like 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'in light of this.'
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'dangerous,' 'harmful,' and 'addicted.' There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'taking through inhaling process.' To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to health and public policy, and pay closer attention to word forms and collocations to ensure your writing sounds more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'Smoking is be dangerous,' 'they are not even able to quit their habit of smoking because they are too much addicted,' and 'People should aware.' These errors are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of modal verbs, and ensuring that your sentence construction follows standard English rules. Proofreading for basic errors is essential.
