Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the topic but fails to fully develop a clear position. While you mention that smoking is a serious issue, the argument lacks depth and coherence. The response is also under the 250-word minimum, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. You touch upon the idea of government intervention, but the arguments are repetitive and lack specific, logical support. To improve, ensure you clearly state your position in the introduction and provide well-developed, distinct arguments in each body paragraph, ensuring you meet the minimum word count requirement to allow for full task completion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often unclear. While you use some linking words like 'on the one hand' and 'furthermore', their usage is sometimes mechanical or misused. The logical flow is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and unclear phrasing, making it difficult for the reader to follow your argument. To improve, focus on using cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that supports your overall thesis statement.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate, which sometimes impedes communication. There are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'queastion', 'weather' instead of 'whether', 'somking', 'aurthorities', 'perfer'). You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use more sophisticated terms correctly. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common words and expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to health and government policy. Using a wider variety of words accurately will help you convey your ideas more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often make sentences difficult to understand. Issues include incorrect verb forms, missing articles, and faulty sentence structure (e.g., 'in my experience show that', 'those people who does not smok'). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the errors in basic grammar are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage, and basic sentence construction. Proofreading your work for these fundamental errors will significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
