Student answer (Band 4.5)
Few individuals have different perspectives towards the digital age, although some believe that theatres and cinemas today are less significant as there are some online entertainment platforms which are playing an alternate role. I favor those who opine that theatres and cinemas have crucial roles in terms of financial and social terms.
People feel theatres and cinemas are less significant in terms of entertainment, where there are some alternate platforms. People nowadays ignore cinemas as there are some online platforms like OTT applications and websites. Moreover, in terms of expenses, online entertainment is more cost effective than theatres and cinemas. People are more conscious in society where they don’t prefer to go to cinemas as online platforms are comfortable as their convenience. For example, online platforms like netflix and amazon prime are in high demand, as people are more conscious particularly in spite of their jobs, as they are specifically more concerned with time management, so they use online platforms in comparison with theatres and cinemas.
I think people who opine theatres and cinemas are still significant economically as well as culturally. As people prefer to visit cinemas to spend time with their families or friends. Elaborating further, people consider theatres and cinemas as it is a comfort zone to enjoy and have real experience. When it comes to cultural significance some countries contribute more interest especially in cinemas. Moreover, cinemas play an important role economically, where actors have some earnings from film industries, where people contribute for theatres and cinemas. For example, film industries provide jobs in different roles, this leads to economic upliftment for individuals in their lives. If theatres and cinemas would be eliminated the film job market would be affected and it leads to economic effect.
In conclusion, theatres and cinemas are being ignored as online platforms are alternative by their convenience. As theaters and cinemas are still important for people in terms of real experience and comfort zone. Moreover, it is also beneficial for film job market in economic terms.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 1.0
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for an opinion on whether smoking should be made illegal, but the essay discusses the relevance of theatres and cinemas in the digital age. Because the candidate failed to address the prompt entirely, the response cannot be assessed for task achievement regarding the specific topic. In an official examination, this would be treated as a memorised or irrelevant response, leading to a very low score for task achievement as the prompt was ignored.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For example', and 'In conclusion'. However, the logical progression is hampered by the fact that the content does not relate to the task. While the paragraphing is sufficient and the flow between sentences is generally clear, the lack of relevance to the actual prompt makes the overall coherence ineffective in the context of the examination task.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for a general discussion, showing some ability to use topic-specific terms like 'economic upliftment', 'film industries', and 'online entertainment platforms'. However, there is a lack of precision and some repetitive phrasing, such as the frequent use of 'theatres and cinemas' and 'online platforms'. The range is sufficient to express ideas clearly, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility or sophisticated control required for higher bands. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'people are more conscious particularly in spite of their jobs'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including issues with article usage ('the film job market'), subject-verb agreement, and awkward phrasing ('people are more conscious in society where they don’t prefer to go'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and comma splices. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. The grammatical control is inconsistent, though it does not completely impede communication.
