Student answer (Band 6.0)
Smoking has sparked considerable discussion in recent years and it become a biggest threat to the human health and should be ban all over the world. I strongly agree with the statement. This essay will explain why.
The primary and most significant reason behind my agreement is a cancer. Cancer is a disease which can lead a human to death. Mouth cancer, lung cancer, blood cancer are the prime example of it. For instance, In recent servey done by world health organisation it was noticed that out of 100 smokers 80 smokers are suffer from cancer and 35 lost their life. For instance, the Germany has declared as the most healthy country around the world by WHO because in germany smoking is a crime and if someone get caught he would have to pay huge fine.
Another prominent reason is a passive smoking, it is type smoking in which the person who is smoking get affected but it can cause the serious impact on the individual who inhale the smoke by mistake when they are around smokers. Smoking has largest threat to human stress, most of the human start smoke to get relief from stress, and it give relief to them but they got addicted to it due to nicotine in it. Nicotine is the substance that attack lungs slowely and damaged it completely as the day passes and lead to death. Moreover, it reduces the sperm quality of people and which can affect the birth process and the health of baby.
In conclusion, i am strongly agree with the statement because the impact it creates on human life is large, such as damage human organs and sometimes it leads to death that is why it should be illegal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding health risks and passive smoking are relevant, though the development is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the claim that Germany has banned smoking as a crime is factually inaccurate and serves as a weak, unsupported example. While the main ideas are present, the explanation of how smoking affects stress and nicotine addiction is slightly disjointed. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that your supporting examples are accurate and that your arguments are developed with more logical depth rather than relying on generalisations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. Phrases like 'For instance' are used twice in quick succession, and the transition between ideas within paragraphs is sometimes abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between the WHO survey and the specific claim about Germany is not logically linked. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring a smoother flow between sentences would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, but there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'biggest threat to the human health' (should be 'a major threat to human health') and '80 smokers are suffer from cancer' (should be '80 smokers suffer from cancer'). You attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'passive smoking' and 'nicotine', which is positive, but the overall control is inconsistent. Focus on learning the correct collocations for common academic terms to improve precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('80 smokers are suffer'), article usage ('a cancer', 'the Germany'), and tense consistency. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with comma splices, such as 'Another prominent reason is a passive smoking, it is type smoking...'. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to lower the score. You need to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors.
