Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The response is significantly under the required 250-word minimum, reaching only 78 words. Because the essay is incomplete and cuts off abruptly, it fails to address the prompt adequately. The position is not clearly established, and the arguments are underdeveloped and fragmented. To improve, you must ensure you write at least 250 words, provide a clear thesis statement in the introduction, and develop each body paragraph with specific supporting evidence and examples. Currently, the response is too brief to demonstrate the ability to develop a coherent argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text lacks logical progression due to its incomplete nature. While there are some attempts at paragraphing and basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand', the ideas are not linked effectively. The abrupt ending prevents any sense of overall structure or conclusion. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') to connect your ideas and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting points.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'illenesses' instead of 'illnesses' and 'involed' instead of 'involved'. The word choice is basic and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'smoking kills our kidney', which is not a standard collocation or a medically accurate statement in this context. To improve, you should expand your vocabulary by reading academic texts and learning how to use words in their correct collocations. Focus on using more precise terminology related to health and public policy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. Examples include 'cause of death people' (incorrect phrasing), 'Many people involed the smoking' (missing preposition and incorrect verb form), and 'Smoking provide a relaxation' (subject-verb agreement error). The sentence structures are simple and often fragmented. To improve, practice basic sentence construction, specifically focusing on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and the proper use of articles. You should also aim to incorporate a mix of simple and complex sentences to demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
