Student answer (Band 5.5)
Smoking can cause serious illness and should be made illegal. I fully agree with this statement because smoking can cause various lung diseases and cause cancer. Smoker lungs are filled with carcinogens and cause serious respiratory diseases like asthma. To safe from it's harmful effects, government should made immediate ban on production of cigarette and artificial smoking devices like vapes.
Firstly, smoking is a bad habit in any society. People often smoke when they are depressed and in a tense situation. Some often tends to enjoy by smoking. This can cause serious effects on their health. Smoking cause lung cancer and completely destroyed their lungs. Moreover, smoker faces serious respiratory diseases like asthma and shortness of breath which causes long term disturbance for them. Nowadays, artificial devices like vapes circulate on the streets and every teenager addicts to them. Further, nicotine in their body causes them to long term illness.
Secondly, to save from the adverse effects of smoking, government should implement immediate ban on production of cigarette and related artificial devices. In addition to, government should ban on those factories who produce smoking materials and stop their supply at the market. Furthermore, the trend of rehabilitation centres in the town for prevention of smoking and awareness programmes on the Television and Internet.
In conclusion, smoking has adverse effects on the human body and causes serious and life threatening diseases. In my opinion, to prevent from such diseases, government should implement complete ban on cigarette smoking and related products to smoking.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the argument that smoking causes lung cancer is mentioned in both the introduction and the first body paragraph without adding new insights. The suggestions for government action are relevant but remain somewhat superficial, lacking a discussion of the practical challenges or economic implications of a total ban. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your arguments with more nuanced reasoning or specific examples rather than restating the same points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression from the health risks to the proposed solutions. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'In addition to, government should ban' and 'to save from the adverse effects' are grammatically awkward and disrupt the flow. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words more naturally, rather than relying on simple transitions like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of incorrect word choice or collocation, such as 'every teenager addicts to them' (should be 'is addicted to') and 'to safe from it's harmful effects' (should be 'to stay safe'). The repetition of basic terms like 'smoking' and 'diseases' limits the lexical variety. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and ensuring that collocations are used accurately in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('government should made', 'smoker faces'), incorrect verb forms ('government should implement immediate ban'), and missing articles. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
