Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the impact on children and the burden on the healthcare system, these points are not fully explored or supported with specific, logical depth. The introduction is slightly confusing due to grammatical errors, making the initial stance a bit disjointed. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed argument that directly supports your thesis, providing more detailed explanations rather than just stating the problem.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'An instance' is used incorrectly to introduce an example, and the phrase 'As this results into' is used repetitively and awkwardly. Some sentences lack logical flow, such as the transition between the second and third paragraphs. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') more naturally and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'world and of issue', 'inclined drastical', and 'overal well living'. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with word forms (e.g., 'prespective' instead of 'perspective'). To improve, try to learn collocations in context rather than individual words. Expanding your range of academic vocabulary and focusing on accurate spelling will significantly improve your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'these causes the ongoing problems'), sentence fragments, and incorrect preposition use. The sentence structures are often repetitive and lack complexity. Many sentences are poorly constructed, such as 'Due to this availability of these products are very common'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures before attempting more complex ones. Pay close attention to subject-verb agreement and ensure that every sentence has a clear subject and a main verb.
