Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position that smoking should be controlled or banned. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention health risks and the need for government intervention, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, you mention 'trend' and 'minors' multiple times without providing a structured argument on why a total ban is or is not the most effective solution. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than restating the same general ideas. The response is somewhat underdeveloped in its exploration of the 'extent' of your agreement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of varied cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often missing or mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'nowadays' and 'therefore' in a way that does not always connect ideas logically. The internal structure of paragraphs is weak, as sentences often list points without clear progression. To improve, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') and ensure that each sentence builds upon the previous one to create a cohesive argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, with frequent misuse of words. For example, 'sober breathing issues' is an incorrect collocation, and 'inhaling' is used as a noun to refer to the act of smoking, which is unnatural. There are also numerous spelling errors, such as 'trigering', 'lawfull', 'indivisuals', 'smkoing', 'ciggretes', and 'compaigns'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. To improve, focus on learning accurate collocations and proofreading for spelling. Avoid using the same words repeatedly; instead, use synonyms to demonstrate a broader range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'smoking... trigering'), incorrect word forms (e.g., 'make lawfull measures'), and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and incorrect capitalization. Complex structures are attempted but are often faulty or fragmented. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and proper punctuation. Practice combining simple sentences into complex ones using subordinating conjunctions like 'although', 'because', or 'which' to improve your grammatical range.
