Student answer (Band 5.5)

Smoking should be illegal in every country and smoking companies must be banned in every region because it can create very dangerous problems for humans and it can be the reason of swear health issues in human body. It can also affect that person who are sitting beside the smoker. I am totally agree with it.

In my own point of view, smoking can create many different types of health issues. For example, cancer, asthma, breathing error, and etc. A smoker person is a example like someone killing himself slowly because he smokes he gain nothing but he is losing his health and physical activity. On the other hand, smoker lose interest in some kind of activities. For example, spending time with family and friends. A smoker person not lose his health only, he lose their relationship also if his partner hate smoking person.

In my perspective, smoking can cause serious illnesses and breathing issues. The people of society or neighbours who are non-smokers, they also feel discomfort with smoker and they don't want to make relations with that person. All non-smokers see him with hatefully because he is also giving bad vibes to young generation because the young adults mostly learn what they see around them.

To conclude my point of view, smoking must be strictly banned in countries because it's destroying every people, young, teens, adults, oldies, even tho childrens are also affected by this worst habit of smoking. The government of every country should take some action on it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention health issues like 'cancer' and 'asthma,' the arguments remain somewhat superficial and repetitive. The discussion regarding the impact on others and the younger generation is relevant but lacks depth or specific examples to fully support the argument. To improve, you should aim to expand on your points with more detailed explanations or logical consequences, ensuring that each paragraph contributes significantly to your overall argument rather than restating the same points in different ways.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For instance, phrases like 'In my own point of view' and 'In my perspective' are used repetitively. Transitions between sentences are sometimes abrupt, and the logical flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'A smoker person is a example like someone killing himself slowly.' Improving the variety and precision of linking words would help the ideas connect more naturally and logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. You rely on simple terms like 'bad,' 'serious,' and 'problems.' There are also noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'swear health issues' (likely meaning 'severe'), 'breathing error' (instead of 'respiratory problems'), and 'see him with hatefully.' While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision and the frequent misuse of words prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations and precise terminology would significantly enhance your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('smoker lose interest'), article usage ('a example'), and awkward sentence construction ('he lose their relationship also if his partner hate smoking person'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms.
