Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 177 words long. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the essay is incomplete and ends abruptly with 'I'. While you have identified a position and provided some relevant arguments for both sides, the lack of a conclusion and the insufficient length mean the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must ensure you fully develop your arguments with specific examples and provide a clear, balanced conclusion to meet the minimum length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Additionally', and 'moreover'. However, the flow is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. The progression of ideas is logical, but the abrupt ending prevents a cohesive conclusion. To reach a higher band, ensure that your paragraphs are balanced in length and that you include a concluding paragraph that synthesizes your main points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'profitable business', 'life threatening diseases', and 'peer and social media influence'. However, there are several inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'major concern for serious illness on the several nations' and 'smoking is extremely vital for health' (where 'detrimental' would be more appropriate). Some phrasing is also slightly awkward. To improve, focus on learning collocations and ensuring that the words you choose accurately reflect the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'many livelihood depends' (subject-verb agreement), 'tax rate in tobacco products' (preposition error), and 'more than millions people' (quantifier error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and capitalization issues. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your score.
