Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the health risks of smoking and the feasibility of a ban. However, the position is somewhat inconsistent; while you argue it is harmful, you also suggest that a ban might lead to black market issues. The development of ideas is limited by frequent grammatical errors and unclear phrasing, such as 'if goverment shold create law about tabacoo they cant live without soke'. To improve, ensure your main position is clearly stated in the introduction and consistently supported throughout the essay. The arguments regarding the need for alternatives before a ban are relevant, but they require more sophisticated explanation and clearer logical flow to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often difficult to follow due to the lack of appropriate cohesive devices and poor sentence structure. Transitions between ideas are often missing or confusing, such as the sudden shift from health risks to the 'black market' argument in the conclusion. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the internal logic within sentences is often broken, making it challenging for the reader to track your argument. To improve, focus on using linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'however' to connect your sentences and paragraphs more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors that occasionally impede communication (e.g., 'soke' for smoke, 'pepole' for people, 'hinious' for heinous, 'vulnrable' for vulnerable). You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use more precise or academic terms. While you attempt to discuss complex topics like 'withdrawal' and 'black market', the spelling and word choice errors are frequent and noticeable. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic words and try to incorporate more varied vocabulary related to health and government policy to demonstrate a wider range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
There is a lack of control over basic sentence structures, and the essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often distort meaning. Punctuation is largely absent, and there are many run-on sentences or fragments, such as 'i partically because mainy pepole in india consume soke if goverment shold create law'. Subject-verb agreement and tense usage are inconsistent throughout the text. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct subject-verb agreement, proper use of articles, and consistent verb tenses before attempting more complex structures.
