Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many people are smoking regularly for that people is a normal thing but for some people have a problem like asthma allergy overall health problems I may agree with this sentence that smoking should be illegal because then some people has problem then they went out. See near people that smoking and they can't breathe.

Nowadays many people think that it is a normal thing and they will not stopping to smoking but still some people has honesty so that people stop smoking overall then we say there are nice people and bad people in the world and we can't change it because it's there point of view.

For example now we can see many people is smoking like it's adults or older so how we say we can't change anybody's point of view but still it is important there are doctors that's put efforts to help that people so what we can do for that people who have that problems. We can try to do the smoking illegal because smoking also made many illnesses.

We should stand up for that people and strike to ban the smoking because it's matters of many people life it doesn't matter how many days and how many hours it will take the strike only matter that people feel good and healthy if we shouldn't speak up for that people's then it will be Lost honesty for example let's we say we are the same situation we have that problem and nobody's speak up. So be honest

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position in favor of banning smoking. However, the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. The arguments regarding health issues and the impact on others are mentioned but lack depth or logical progression. The essay relies on vague generalizations, such as 'nice people and bad people,' which do not contribute to a persuasive academic argument. The reasoning is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's line of thought. To improve, the writer should focus on providing specific, well-explained reasons and concrete examples to support their stance, rather than repeating the same points in different ways.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. There is a lack of logical flow between sentences, and the use of cohesive devices is minimal and often inaccurate. For instance, phrases like 'so that people stop smoking overall then we say' create confusion rather than connecting ideas. Referencing is frequently unclear, particularly the use of 'that people' and 'that problems,' which makes the text difficult to follow. The progression of ideas is not evident, and the essay feels like a series of disjointed thoughts rather than a cohesive argument. Improved use of linking words and clearer pronoun references are essential.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive, often relying on simple words like 'people,' 'things,' and 'problems.' There is little evidence of an attempt to use more sophisticated or academic vocabulary. Many word choices are imprecise or incorrect, such as 'strike to ban' or 'Lost honesty,' which hinders the clarity of the message. The limited range of vocabulary makes it difficult for the writer to express complex ideas or nuances related to the topic. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary to include topic-specific terms and demonstrate better control over word choice and collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many people is smoking'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, such as 'See near people that smoking and they can't breathe.' The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, which further disrupts the reading process. To improve, the writer needs to focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that sentences are complete and correctly punctuated.
