Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, smoking has been a major concern. A group of people believe that, smoking may cause noxious effect in the human body and it also invite plenty of life threatening diseases; such as asthma and many bronchial types of diseases. In my opinion I completely agree with this statement that, government should ban smoking products.

The first argument put forward for stance is that, smoking spread enormous disorders to the human beings. First and foremost, people who consume cigarettes continuously, but after a certain period of time, they found some difficulty in breathing. Because continuous smoking could holes in the human lungs. As a consequence, people may suffer from breathing diseases; such as Asthma and bronchitis. To cite an example, a recent survey of the Times of India, the descendent individuals are more attracting to the smoking so many youngsters are not only suffer from bronchial disorders, but also thousands of youth are death.

Furthermore, another negative aspect of smoking is sometimes citizens who consume in a prodigious amount of cigarettes may cause cancer and it is also one of the life threatening disease. Moreover, state officials should make some rigid rules and regulations related to the smoking. Beside this, government should also conduct seminars and camping's in schools as well as in rural areas. Hence, many consumers gain knowledge from the seminar and avoid those types of products like tobacco and cigarettes. For instance, as per the survey of an Oxford University, German government was organized a seminar in schools 2016. Thus, the overall consumers has been decreased day by day and now it is also know as a smoke free country.

To conclude, government should not only focus in the development of the city, but also focus in the healthcare sector as well. Because healthy citizens are one of the significant factor of positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of banning smoking. The ideas are relevant, focusing on health risks and the role of government intervention. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'holes in the lungs' is scientifically imprecise and lacks a sophisticated explanation. While the essay covers the main points, the supporting examples, such as the reference to an 'Oxford University' survey in Germany, feel generic and lack the depth required for a higher band. To improve, ensure that arguments are supported with more logical, well-reasoned explanations rather than relying on vague or potentially inaccurate anecdotal evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First and foremost,' 'Furthermore,' and 'To conclude,' which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Beside this' or 'As a consequence, people may suffer.' Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between 'descendent individuals' and the rest of the sentence is confusing. Improving the variety and natural flow of linking words would elevate the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary,' 'prodigious,' and 'significant factor.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'invite plenty of life threatening diseases,' 'smoking spread enormous disorders,' and 'camping's' (likely meant 'campaigns'). These errors occasionally distract the reader. To reach a higher band, focus on using collocations more accurately and ensuring that words are used in their correct context rather than just attempting to use 'big' words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the overall consumers has been decreased'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing ('they found some difficulty in breathing'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas often breaking the flow of sentences. While the writer attempts complex structures, these are often marred by errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement before attempting more complex, multi-clause sentences.
