Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people are dealing with stress, anxiety, agression with a new form of medicine called ciggrettes. They have become so habitual to it that in every mood wheather they are sad or happy they just light up a ciggrett without even knowing it's harmfull effects. Some people believe smoking can cause serious illnesses and should be baned and declared as illegal. I completly agree with these thoughts as smoking can even take someone's life.

From teenagers to senior citizens, smoking is so common and it's done on regular basic even after knowing that it can cause serious uncurable diseases like cancer. Lungs are one of the most crucial part of our body and is directly effected by the smoke of ciggrettes. People tend to forget that these ciggrettes would only give a temporary pleasure meanwhile it can take some precious moments of life. The main reason for smoking these days in youth is to look cool and classy in their groups. Even friends advice eachother to start smoking even if they haven't and these types of scenerio are more common in college days or in hostels.

Smoking can cause major effect on our body, our love one's, our future, and on our thinking capacity. Passive smoking is more dangereous than active smoking in which the other person inhale the smoke that is realsed by a person smoking ciggrettes. So not only it harms the person who smoke's but also who are in contact of them. Despict having warning signs on the packet of ciggrettes people just avoid them. One of the major reason of spreading of smoking habbit is the advertisments and brand deals and moreover government is also promoting them without any if and but just because of heavy taxes they recieve on these ciggretts.

In my opinion smoking should be made illegal as soon as possible as it can destroy someone's life, his whole family and his whole carrier. Moreover government should start taking all the necessary actions againt these advertisement companies and also parents should have a strict eye on their child and regulary health test should be done if someone has a habit of smoking.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of banning smoking. The ideas are relevant, covering health risks, social influences, and the role of government. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the health consequences are mentioned, the argument for a total ban could be more nuanced by considering the practical challenges of such a policy. The essay remains focused throughout, but some points, such as the mention of 'advertisements' and 'taxes,' are introduced in the final body paragraph without sufficient elaboration, which limits the depth of the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. There is a progression of ideas from the personal health impact to social factors and finally to government responsibility. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the transition between sentences could be smoother, and some linking phrases are used in a slightly unnatural way, such as 'if and but' or 'despict having'. Despite these minor issues, the paragraphing is appropriate and the overall structure is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinions clearly. There are several spelling errors, such as 'ciggrettes', 'agression', 'wheather', 'harmfull', 'dangererous', and 'carrier' (instead of career), which occur frequently. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'passive smoking' and 'active smoking', the persistent spelling mistakes and occasional word choice errors (e.g., 'regular basic' instead of 'regular basis') prevent the score from being higher. The range is sufficient but lacks the precision required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'person who smoke's', 'Lungs... is directly effected') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors is noticeable and occasionally distracts the reader. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy, specifically verb forms and pluralization, before attempting more complex structures.
