Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student addresses the prompt by discussing whether smoking should be made illegal and presents a clear position that it should be banned. Main ideas are introduced, such as health consequences and the impact on young people, but they are often under-developed and lack extended support. For instance, the point about passive smoking in gatherings is mentioned briefly ('if a person is having a cigarette in a gathering then it will impact others') without being fully elaborated. The argument tends to over-generalise at times, and some claims lack specific backing, though the overall stance remains clear throughout. Because the prompt is addressed with relevant ideas, it meets the criteria for Band 5.5 to 6.0, settling at 5.5 due to the limited development of main points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay has a basic organizational structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, overall progression is frequently disrupted by repetitive phrasing ('day by day', 'common in every country of world') and faulty cohesive devices. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks smooth transitions—for example, shifting abruptly from health impacts to second-hand smoke, and then to parenting styles. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'Which, can destroy their career'. While the text remains readable overall, the mechanical and sometimes inaccurate use of cohesive ties places this response firmly at Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited and repetitive vocabulary range, relying heavily on basic words like 'common', 'cause', and 'destroy'. There are frequent word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'commonly growing cause', 'if a do person smoking than his life will be decrease', and 'parents have a proper check on their children's about their habits'. These lexical shortcomings and noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a vocabulary profile typical of Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The writing displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, with heavy reliance on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex clauses. Numerous grammatical errors occur throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the numbers of smoker in adults', 'it impact everyone health'), tense errors ('when a person start smoking it impacts... and it start making'), and punctuation mistakes, such as sentence fragments ('Which, can destroy their career'). These frequent errors frequently strain the reader and restrict the score to Band 4.5.
