Student answer (Band 5.0)
Drugs are injurious to health. Moreover, Smoking can cause illnesses and should be made illegal. In this essay, i will discuss both views and give my own opinion.
It is believed that smoking cause various problems to person who intake it. It should be made illegal. It is root cause of lungs cancer. It also has deleterious effect on other individuals becuase the smoke that it produce is harmful for our health . So this way, it can cause breath issues to other individuals. A survey conducted by prestigious newspaper of Britain showed that the cities where smoking is illegal have less patients of cancer in the comparison of other cities.
Futhermore, it can be helped our society to clean becuase the individuals who do smoking throws cigratee everywhere. In addition , they pollute our surroundings. For example a person who is smoking threw cigrate and it caused fire in forest and became the reason of woods loss.
In my opinion, it is very useful step to make our state drug free. It can help us in various ways. It have good effect on children if smokers stop smoking. Government should need to take stringent actions towards these type of people who make it, sell it and take it. For youngesters, awareness programmes should be held in which they will get knowledge about the deterinental effects of cigrate in our body. In addition, the education institution should be organised a trip of hospitals where they will watch the patients suffer from cancer becuase of habit of smoking
Different people have different reason regarding this statement but I have sound reasons to advocate that the stirct laws should be made to make our country drugs free.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that smoking should be made illegal and provides reasons to support this stance. The response covers main aspects such as health impacts, second-hand smoke, and environmental littering. However, the introduction misinterprets the prompt slightly by stating 'I will discuss both views' (an advantage/disadvantage or discussion essay format) when the task actually asks 'To what extent do you agree?'. Furthermore, some arguments, such as the forest fire example, are a bit simplistic and under-developed. Ideas are generally relevant, but the lack of a balanced discussion on the 'to what extent' aspect means it fits comfortably into Band 5.5 to 6.0. Given the clear position and supporting examples, a band score of 5.5 is awarded.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, attempting to group ideas logically, beginning with health effects, moving to environmental concerns, and concluding with government action. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions, repetitive phrasing, and poor cohesive device management, such as 'Futhermore, it can be helped our society to clean'. Referencing and pronouns are occasionally unclear, particularly when referring back to smoking or smokers. While there is an overall structure, the mechanical use of cohesive devices and flawed paragraph linkages reflect the descriptors for Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses a limited range of vocabulary with several noticeable errors in word choice and spelling (e.g., 'injurious', 'deleterious', 'becuase', 'cigrate', 'deterinental', 'stirct'). There are attempts to use less common vocabulary like 'deleterious' and 'prestigious', but they are often marred by collocation and spelling mistakes (e.g., 'prestigious newspaper of Britain'). The repetition of basic terms like 'smoking', 'illegal', and 'individuals' demonstrates a restricted lexical scope, leading to a band score of 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but frequent grammatical errors impede fluency and clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('It have good effect', 'education institution should be organised'), incorrect passive voice usage ('it can be helped our society'), and missing articles ('in comparison of other cities'). Punctuation and capitalization errors also appear throughout the text (e.g., lowercase 'i', double spaces). Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the response meets the criteria for Band 5.0.
