Student answer (Band 5.0)

The number of smokers in the world has increased gradually. Although, Smoking becomes the cause of various diseases amoung the people, this should be made illegal. I completely agree with the statement that smoking should be banned in the world to reduce the number of diseases related to smoking.

On the one hand, Some people are doing smoking in the difficult patch of their lifes. The main reason of smoking is to reduce anxiety and feel relax in he bad time. For example, The heart broken persons in the Pakistan have done smoking just to relax the mind and to do move on. It becomes the tradition in the Pakistan but it harms the human body.

On the other hand, Smoking can cause several diseases like kidney failure. The ratio of kidney failure increases dramtically in the world because of smoking. For instance, during the smoking, the smoke direct effects the kidney and cause serious illness like kidney failure or change of kidney colour into black.

Moreover, smoking are becoming popular amoung the students in the teenagers. This become the reason of lacking interest in study and doing smoking regularly. For example, Most of the students are not going to school or collage and going to shop for smoking.

In summing up, Kidney failure is the main disease beacuse of smoking, while some doing smoking for relaxation. I agree with the statement completely and smoking instruments like cigratte, vapes should be banned and helps to reduce the number of illness because of smoking.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that smoking should be made illegal to reduce illnesses. The writer attempts to cover both sides of the issue, mentioning reasons why people smoke, such as for relaxation during difficult patches, and counterbalancing this with the health consequences like kidney failure. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, relying on weak or unsupported assertions (such as claiming that smoking turns kidney colour into black or that it is the main cause of kidney failure). While a position is presented throughout, the development remains superficial, and some examples, such as those regarding teenagers or Pakistani culture, lack strong substantiation. This performance aligns best with Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs featuring transitional markers like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', and a conclusion. However, the overall progression is occasionally hampered by awkward transitions and confusing sentence connections. For instance, paragraphs are sometimes comprised of abrupt, disconnected points, and referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'doing smoking for relaxation'). Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes mechanically or inaccurately. Paragraphing is attempted, though some paragraphs lack internal unity and clear topic progression. This organisational structure and use of cohesion correspond to a Band 5.0 level.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and repetitive, which impacts the clarity of the argument. The student frequently misuses common vocabulary and collocations, such as 'doing smoking' instead of 'smoking', 'feel relax' instead of 'feel relaxed', and 'heart broken persons' instead of 'heartbroken individuals'. There are also factual and lexical oddities like 'change of kidney colour into black'. While basic meaning is communicated, noticeable errors in word choice and spelling ('amoung', 'dramtically', 'cigratte') cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a Band 5.0 descriptor profile.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional or concessive clauses ('Although, Smoking becomes the cause...'), but these attempts are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('smoking are becoming', 'illness... and helps'), incorrect prepositional usage, and punctuation errors. These frequent errors cause strain and occasional confusion for the reader. Although the writer attempts complex structures, the high density of foundational grammatical inaccuracies places this response firmly at a Band 5.0.
