Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent years, consumption of smoking has become a widely discussed issue. While some people believe that it can cause serious problems.I believe that it has many negative effects on human health. This essay will discuss the main reasons for my position.

The primary reason why I agree with this view is that it can cause cancer cells which is hardly dignonsis. This is because these cells generate quickly and it can also lead long-term illness. For instance, people comsume it for thrice in a day that can damage their lungs and they have breathing problems Therefore, smoking consumption have serious causes among indivduals , which demonstrates why people have short lifespan in the world.

Another significant reason is that why it made illegal because people how intake it they sometimes directly leads to their death. In other words, people have their families but when they intake these drugs they get separated from their familes and they also get additiced . A clear example of this can be seen in due to the infulence of other people students also being targeted by these things . Consequently, it can destroy human life .Hence, this further supports the view that people who have additicon to drugs they may get unexecepted things to happended.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that [your government should organize awareness campagines to support people to stop drugs because it break family relations and serious health problems. Although non- smoking may have some merit, the reasons supporting my position are more convincing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether smoking should be made illegal, taking a clear position that it has negative health effects and should be banned. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes confused. For instance, the student states that smoking causes cancer cells which are 'hardly dignonsis' and mentions people consuming it 'for thrice in a day', which shows a weak grasp of how to elaborate on examples effectively. In the second body paragraph, the discussion shifts abruptly towards drug addiction ('these drugs', 'additiced'), which conflates tobacco smoking with illicit drug use. While a position is presented throughout, the lack of precise development and the blurring of categories pull the task response down to a Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, establishing some basic structure. However, the overall progression of ideas is hindered by abrupt transitions and a lack of clear logical flow. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'Another significant reason is that why it made illegal because...', which results in ungrammatical and confusing sentence linking. Referencing is also faulty in places, making it difficult to follow which subject pronouns refer to. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical development within the paragraphs is frequently disrupted by mechanical phrasing and disjointed sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The lexical range is limited and frequently inadequate for precise academic discussion. The student uses basic vocabulary and makes frequent word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'consumption of smoking', 'hardly dignonsis', 'comsume it for thrice in a day', and 'additiced'. There are also significant spelling errors throughout the text (e.g., 'dignonsis', 'comsume', 'indivduals', 'additiced', 'infulence', 'campagines', 'unexecepted'). These noticeable lexical and orthographic errors cause strain for the reader and impede smooth communication, placing the writing firmly in the Band 5 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but these attempts are frequently faulty and riddled with grammatical errors. Examples include 'smoking consumption have serious causes among indivduals' and 'people how intake it they sometimes directly leads to their death'. Errors in subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and clause structuring occur in almost every sentence. Furthermore, punctuation is sometimes missed (e.g., missing spaces after periods in the introduction). Because frequent grammatical errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and prevent the formation of reliable complex structures, a Band 4.5 is appropriate, rounded to Band 5 based on descriptors.
