Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, all the people frequently do smoking such as cigarette and drugs. It can cause a serious health problems sucha s blood cancer and damage their lungs. I believe that government should take action and reduce the production of smoking items to reduce serious problem. All the aspects of smoking will be discussed in the forthcoming paragraphs.
On the one hand, smoking can cause serious dilemma for people such as lungs damage and cancer, it will reduce the human life span. For example, a survey conducted by University of buston indicates that almost 70 percent of people die and experienced serious health diseases due to smoking. Therefore, if people wants to live happy and healthy long lives they should stop smoking cigarettes and drugs.
On the other hand, if people do not understand the problem which caused by smoking, government should take serious action on perticular cigarette companies to reduce the production or stops it. Moreover, government should try to published in newspaper amd TV channel that smoking is illegal activities. For instance, Government of United Kingdom introduced a new law than no one will smoking in public place and damage public property, if people caught them they will get fined huge amount of money.
To recapitulate, although smoking can creates several health and brain issues, I strongly believe that government should try to reduce production of smoking items such as drugs and cigarettes and publish articles on news that these activity is illegal. I think this is teh only way to reduce it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether smoking should be made illegal and presents a clear position that the government should reduce production and make it illegal. Key ideas such as health consequences and government intervention are introduced, though they are somewhat under-developed and rely on generalisations. For example, the claim that 'almost 70 percent of people die' lacks contextual validity and feels unsupported. While all parts of the task are addressed, the arguments could be extended further with deeper analysis rather than repetitive statements regarding government bans. Overall, the performance aligns with Band 5.5 descriptors, as the position is clear but the task is addressed with limited and sometimes repetitive supporting ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into four paragraphs with a clear introduction and conclusion. However, progression is somewhat impaired by repetitive phrasing and abrupt transitions between ideas. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To recapitulate', but their usage is occasionally mechanical or inaccurate, as seen in the transition from health impacts to government action. Paragraphing is present, though the internal flow of sentences lacks smooth cohesion. Pronoun referencing and logical linking require better control to ensure seamless transitions for the reader. This performance fits Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently recycling words like 'smoking', 'serious', 'government', and 'reduce'. There are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'do smoking', 'serious dilemma for people', and 'published in newspaper amd TV channel that smoking is illegal activities'. Spelling errors ('amd', 'perticular', 'teh') and grammatical slips within word forms are noticeable. Although the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the core topic, the range is limited and inadequate for higher bands. This sits comfortably within Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'government should take action', 'people wants to live', and 'no one will smoking in public place'. Many complex sentences are faulty, containing fused clauses or missing parts, such as 'for example, a survey conducted by University of buston indicates that almost 70 percent of people die and experienced serious health diseases'. These frequent errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, matching the criteria for Band 5.0.
