Student answer (Band 5.0)
I am completely agree with this kind of precaution method of making smoking illegal because of its serious effects on health.
There are so many people in the world not only in a specific country who dies because of smoking and still other people are not learning from this that smoking is not a good thing for health. Most of the patients in hospitals having asthama and lung cancer and major cause of these diseases is smoking. These diseases may lead to death of a person.
Now a days not only adults but also teenagers starts smoking just to be looked cool which lead to their habit of smoking. Most of the people think that those who use ciggerete are smoking others with vape or pod are not smoking. This is the wrong statement. Anyone who inhales smoke, no matter which instrument they use, is considered as smoking. And every type of smoking in dangerous to health.
Another disadvantage of smoking is that those are also affected by this who do not or dislike smoking, as the air also polluted and those who do not smoke but breath may also effected and lead to got lung diseases such as lung cancer.
In my opinion, the only way to avoid most of the diseases of lung is to make smoking illegal. This approach will help a lot of people to not smoking and make themselves healthy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear, absolute position in favor of making smoking illegal. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. Furthermore, the length requirement is NOT met, as the response contains only 235 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. While the main arguments regarding health consequences and passive smoking are relevant, they lack sufficient extension and deep elaboration. The introduction contains a minor grammatical slip in the stance expression ("I am completely agree"), but the overall position remains clear throughout the essay. Because the response is under length and ideas are slightly under-developed, it meets the criteria for Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic overall organization with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body points, and conclusion. However, progression is somewhat disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive (e.g., relying heavily on words like 'and', 'also', and 'most of the'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'those are also affected by this who do not or dislike smoking'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow between sentences often feels fragmented rather than smoothly connected. This reflects the characteristics of Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on everyday terms (e.g., 'good thing', 'bad thing', 'make themselves healthy'). There are several word-choice and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'ciggerete' instead of cigarette, 'asthama' instead of asthma, and awkward phrasing like 'precaution method'. While the writer attempts some topic-specific terminology like 'lung cancer' and 'passive smoking' (implied), the range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, resulting in a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('teenagers starts smoking'), incorrect preposition usage ('dangerous to health' instead of 'dangerous for health'), and awkward verb forms ('lead to got lung diseases'). Punctuation and article use are also inconsistent. These frequent errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar performance firmly at Band 5.0.
