Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses the prompt by clearly stating a strong position agreeing that smoking should be made illegal ("I strongly agree with this point of veiw"). Several supporting ideas are provided, such as the health risks of throat and lung cancer, infertility, and the negative perception among youngsters who view smoking as a fashion statement. However, the development of these ideas remains somewhat limited and repetitive, with several generalizations regarding students and infertility. The response touches upon the main parts of the task, meeting the core requirements, but the arguments lack depth and academic extension. Consequently, the performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, as the task is addressed, but ideas remain under-developed and limited in scope.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay displays some basic organization, including an introduction, body sections, and a conclusion, which meets the fundamental structural expectations. However, there is a clear lack of overall logical progression. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with a lack of clear separation between ideas, and the concluding paragraph is abrupt and grammatically incomplete ("Government should be banned all shops there smokin"). Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, making the flow somewhat mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in sudden shifts between discussing youngsters, students, and general health issues. These features place the response firmly in Band 4, where information and ideas are not arranged coherently enough to secure a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical resource used in the essay is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple vocabulary such as "illness," "health," "bad habbit," and "dangerous diseases." There are noticeable attempts at less common vocabulary, such as "infertility" and "misconceptions," but these are accompanied by frequent word-choice errors, odd collocations (e.g., "icing" instead of e-cigarettes or similar terms, "ash of smoking is also damage"), and spelling mistakes like "drawbaks," "youngesters," and "Authourties." These errors sometimes cause difficulty for the reader. Nevertheless, the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the core message. Therefore, the lexical resource corresponds to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The essay demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and basic subject-verb patterns. Attempts at more complex structures frequently result in serious errors, such as modal and passive voice confusion ("Government should be banned all types of smoking") and incorrect tense usage ("if they will adopt this habbit, they look wealthy"). Punctuation and capitalization errors are frequent throughout the text, and missing prepositions or incorrect verb forms (e.g., "They have addicted the cigarette") further impede readability. Because errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader, the grammar performance reflects the Band 4 descriptors.
