Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The student attempts to address the prompt regarding whether smoking should be made illegal, expressing agreement with the statement. However, the development of ideas is severely limited and relies heavily on unsupported, extreme claims, such as '99% people do smoking' and '90% peoples died reason is smoking.' While the writer does offer some basic suggestions for control, such as stopping shopkeepers from selling cigarettes to young boys and police intervention, these points are repetitive and lack logical elaboration or academic depth. Consequently, the response meets the minimum word count requirement but fails to properly extend and support its main arguments in a coherent academic manner, aligning closely with the descriptors for a band 4.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks proper paragraphing, as it is presented as one long, dense block of text, which significantly hinders overall cohesion and readability. There is an absence of clear logical progression and a lack of appropriate cohesive devices. Instead of using linking words or transition phrases to connect ideas, the writer relies on repetitive sentence starters like 'I think so' and 'Smoking can.' Reference pronouns are also misused or missing entirely, making it difficult to follow the flow of arguments between sentences. This structural disorganization results in a score of 4.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

Vocabulary is very basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted throughout the response. The student repeatedly uses fundamental words like 'smoking', 'people', 'young', and 'diseases', often misspelling them as 'dieases'. Furthermore, there is an overreliance on awkward collocations and non-standard phrases such as 'dangerousful', 'do very smoking', and 'play the life of humans like a game.' The lack of a sufficient vocabulary range and frequent lexical errors strain the reader and obscure meaning, placing this performance firmly in the band 4.0 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting almost entirely of simple sentences with recurring structural patterns. There are constant, pervasive errors in tense usage, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions, such as 'smoking can creates', 'i am agree this sentence', 'goverment of pakistan take a reaction', and 'sigrate in young boys.' Complex structures are either absent or attempted with such severe inaccuracies that they distort meaning. Because errors are frequent throughout every sentence, the grammar falls below the standard required for a band 5.0.
