Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people around the world like to smoke, While it cause health issues and deseases, also it should be banned. Although i agree with this statement as it is harmful for environment and for the health of the smoker, i do not believe that a complete ban is the most appropriate solution.

The main reason for banning smoking is the significant impact on public health. Regular smoking can cause serious health issues such as cencer, asthma. Also it not only put impact on people who smoke but also to the nonsmokers. Another reason is air pollution when niconite burn in cigrate it release carbondioxide with harmfull gases. For example, a person who smoke at home preduce toxic air of smoke in environment of the house and it imapct the health of children and senior citizen. Thus it no harmful for environment and health as well.

However a total prohibtation of smoking may cause socially illigal activites. As many people in recent time are stuck in cobweb of smose. As ban on tobacco can raise illegal market which can also cause criminal activites. As governmant should play significant role to increase tax on tobacco and other requireng prominent health warning on cigarette packaging. These measures could reduce smoking rates while avoiding some of the problems associated with an outringht ban.

In conclusion, i strongly support tougher restriction on smoking because of its serious health concequences, particularly for non smokers who exposed to second hand smoker. Nevertheless, i believe that strict regulation combined with awareness and cessation combined with education would be support would be more parctical than completely banning smoking.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position throughout. The introduction acknowledges both sides while stating that a complete ban is not appropriate, and this position is maintained in the body paragraphs. Key arguments regarding health impacts, passive smoking, and the economic consequences of an illegal market are introduced and supported with relevant examples, such as the danger to children and senior citizens, and the risk of criminal activities. While some ideas could be extended further for greater depth, the prompt is fully satisfied, earning a Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing distinct points, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Another reason is', 'For example', and 'However' are used to guide the reader through the arguments, though referencing and transitions are at times slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct aspects of the prompt. While the logical progression is generally clear, occasional awkward phrasing in transitions prevents a higher score. Overall, this meets the requirements for a Band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'prohibitation', 'outright ban', and 'significant role'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'deseases' for diseases, 'cencer' for cancer, 'niconite' for nicotine, 'cigrate' for cigarette, 'carbondioxide', 'illigal', and 'parctical'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents the vocabulary score from reaching a Band 6, placing it firmly at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional and concessive clauses (e.g., 'Although i agree with this statement...', 'As governmant should play significant role...'). However, grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization (e.g., lowercase 'i'), articles, and verb-subject agreement (e.g., 'While it cause health issues', 'a person who smoke'). Run-on sentences and punctuation issues are common. Because these errors occur frequently and occasionally strain the reader, the response warrants a Band 5.0.
