Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is argued by some people that smoking can cause serious issues and should be ban. Although some people might disagree with the smoking issues, I completely agreed with the statement. Not only because it is dangrous for lungs and effects negatively on our mental ability, but also because it can cause cancer.
There are a lot of diseases associated with smoking. Firstly, smoking is dangrous for our lungs. As cigarettes have tobacoo that can effect on human lungs by nicotine. Take an example of Nepal, The Health Minister of Nepal says, government should ban the cigarette, because the 20% of Nepalian adults have lungs issue and face the breathing problems. Thus, this advantage proves that smoking have illnesses and should be made illegal.
Secondly, smoking can effects on our mental ability negatively. As cigarette have a high amount of nicotine, which can be considered as drug. For instance, a survey conducted in America, it concluded that the smokers cannot remember things, and having less ability to make a dicision. Hence, this can also make this development negative, and should be made illegal.
Finally, smoking is a major cause of cancer. As smokers can smoke cigarette regularly, which can effects our liver that is responsible for blood filtration.
To sum up, although the development have some positive effects too, I believe that smoking can bring problems in term of dangrous for lungs, effects negatively on our mental ability and high cost, it should be made illegal in all over the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing that smoking should be made illegal. The writer provides reasons related to health issues, such as lung problems and mental capacity, and cancer. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the second body paragraph relies on a general reference to a Health Minister of Nepal, but the explanation remains superficial. The conclusion also introduces a new point ('high cost') that was not previously discussed in the body paragraphs. Overall, the response meets the basic requirements of addressing all parts of the task, earning a Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is organized into distinct paragraphs with basic transitional markers like 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'Finally.' However, the logical progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and awkward referencing. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, as seen in the phrase 'Thus, this advantage proves that smoking have illnesses,' which misuses the term advantage for a negative consequence. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs often feels disjointed. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 5.0 range for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and frequently repetitive. The student uses basic vocabulary such as 'serious issues,' 'bad,' and 'dangerous,' alongside frequent spelling and word formation errors like 'tobacoo,' 'dangrous,' 'Nepalian,' and 'dicision.' There are also noticeable collocation and word choice errors, such as 'smoking can effects on our mental ability' and 'smoking have illnesses.' While the meaning is generally discernible, the numerous lexical inaccuracies restrict the score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but these attempts are frequently marred by basic grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'cigarettes have tobacoo that can effect on human lungs' and 'smoking can effects.' Punctuation is generally weak, and word forms are confused, such as mixing verbs and nouns ('effect' versus 'affect'). The frequency of grammatical errors causes some difficulty for the reader, aligning the writing with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
