Student answer (Band 5.0)
In recent times smoking is one of the most dangerous activiy in which mankind has been involved. So some individuals are recommending to make it illegal. In my opinion, it is a very advantegeous for us and definitely i agree with it.
first of all, most significant reason is the diseases caused by consuming it. Smoking is the major cause of lungs cancer amd other breathing problems. Not only the Adults are using it, young teenagers are also smoking it. In order to reduce the impact of this trend authoritiews have to ban it are have to take strict action against people who are producing it. If we want our young genetration to survive then, indeed we have to remove smoking from our soceity, because it is like a virus which eats our society's future.
Furthermore. environment is also impacted because of smoking, as on average every 8 out 10 is involve smoking, because of which it is generating enough pollution to kill a single person. it tested by the scientists that the one who is comsuming smoke is affected less than the one who is biside him, as he is consuming filtered smoke, whereas others are intaking it directly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position on whether smoking should be made illegal, supporting it with reasons related to health and environmental pollution. However, the task achievement is significantly undermined by the severe under-length issue. The text contains only 202 words, failing to meet the minimum requirement of 250 words. Furthermore, the ideas are relatively basic and lack sufficient extension and detailed support, leading to under-developed arguments. For instance, the claim about environmental impact is supported by dubious statistics ('every 8 out 10 is involve smoking') rather than well-reasoned explanation. Because the word count requirement is not met, the score is capped in the lower band range.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some logical organisation with basic cohesive devices such as 'first of all' and 'Furthermore'. However, paragraphing is problematic; the student attempts to start a second paragraph but leaves the essay truncated at the end ('in co...'). Referencing and linking are occasionally faulty, and mechanical transitions are used. While there is a recognisable overarching structure, the abrupt ending and lack of a concluding paragraph severely disrupt the logical progression and overall coherence of the text, preventing it from reaching a Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for discussing the topic. The student attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'advantegeous', 'authoritiews', and 'comsuming', but these are marred by frequent spelling errors. There are also notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'activiy', 'consuming smoke', and 'biside him'. While the general meaning can usually be understood, the high density of lexical errors and misspellings strains the reader and prevents the writing from achieving a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('authoritiews have to ban it are have to take'), missing articles ('is one of the most dangerous activiy'), and awkward phrasing ('the one who is comsuming smoke is affected less than the one who is biside him'). Punctuation is also poorly handled, with erratic capitalisation and an incomplete sentence fragment at the very end. These frequent errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
