Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing that smoking should be made illegal. The writer attempts to present reasons, such as health issues, financial losses, and the need for government intervention including rehabilitation and taxation. However, the development of these ideas is limited and sometimes confused, particularly when the essay conflates tobacco smoking with drug addiction in sentences like 'some individuals are addicated to drugs and now they are caused health problems'. The arguments are repetitive and lack detailed expansion or fully relevant supporting examples. Consequently, the response aligns best with the Band 5 descriptor, as it addresses the task and presents a clear position, but the ideas are under-developed and limited in scope.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing an attempt at a logical structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by poor cohesion and referencing errors, such as 'people who smoke they can face' and abrupt transitions between sentences. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or awkwardly used, as seen in 'Nonetheless, there are several measures, which government should be taken.' Furthermore, paragraphing is compromised by stray punctuation marks and repetitive statements like 'Rehabilitation centre plays a crucial role to fix it' appearing twice. Overall, the organizational framework shows some structure but lacks clear overall progression, fitting the Band 5 descriptor.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple words like 'problem', 'health', 'money', and 'smoke'. There are numerous lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'addicated' for addicted, 'casue' for cause, 'campeigns' for campaigns, 'aganist' for against, 'understant' for understand, and 'curical' for crucial. These errors and the limited range of vocabulary create noticeable strain for the reader. While the writer attempts some less common terms like 'rehabilitation' and 'financial losses', the frequent word choice and spelling inaccuracies restrict the score to Band 4.5, which rounds to Band 5 based on standard descriptor thresholds for limited yet minimally adequate range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent, noticeable errors that impede comprehension, such as 'Smoke damage people organs', 'government should be taken', and 'government should be take a strict action'. Subject-verb agreement is frequently violated, and tense usage is inconsistent, as demonstrated in 'governing bodies start campeigns... and understant to people that is wrong'. Punctuation is also problematic, including double periods and comma splices. Due to the high frequency of grammatical errors causing regular difficulty for the reader, this performance corresponds to a Band 4.5, rounded to Band 5.
