Student answer (Band 5.5)

Smoking is the emerging issue among the adults nowadays. It cause deadly diseases and it should be banned or government need to make it's import and export illegal. I believe that governnment should banned it completely and take action against it users by giving them serious punishments.

On the one hand, smoking can cause serious problems like lung cancer. When a person take smoke for longer time and in excessive amount, smoke goes directly into lungs through breathing. In response to this, our lungs are getting effected by smoke and they are unable to perform their tasks. Ultimately, lungs are completely fail to perform their tasks. When lungs are fail to do their work properly person will suffer not only by breathing issue. Body do not get pure blood and oxygen. So person died due to failiure of lungs

On the other hand, Government should need to make policies to make smoking illegal. It should be banned in the country market. Moreover, governmnet can make policies and educate people about the harmful effects of smoking. Government make ads, upload videos on the social media platform to discourage the users of ciggrates. In contrast to this , our government introduce new smoking brands in the society, while showing harmfull effects omn packaging. This is not the effective way to control smoking.

In conclusion, smoking will effect body negatively and cause diseases. I believe that it should be made illegal in country by educating people about the disadvantage of smoking.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your response addresses the task partially by presenting a clear position that smoking should be made illegal, supported by arguments regarding health impacts and government policies. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed, lacking depth and robust supporting examples. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum length requirement, containing 248 words instead of the required 250, which restricts the extent to which your position and main points can be fully explored. To move towards higher bands, you must expand on your arguments with more detailed explanations, specific examples, and ensure you securely meet or exceed the word count threshold.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

Your essay demonstrates some overall organisation with visible paragraphing, using basic transitions such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow is occasionally hindered by repetitive ideas regarding lung failure. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or mechanical, and referencing is not always clear, such as the ambiguous pronoun use in 'take action against it users'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs needs strengthening to ensure ideas link smoothly and build upon one another logically throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully employing topic-related terms such as 'lung cancer', 'import and export', and 'harmful effects'. However, there are noticeable spelling, word-choice, and word-form errors that cause some difficulty for the reader, including 'government' (spelled 'governnmet' and 'govermnet'), 'ciggrates', 'effected' instead of 'affected', and 'disadvantage' instead of 'disadvantages'. To improve your lexical score, you need to expand your range of vocabulary, use less common lexical items with greater precision, and pay closer attention to accurate spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Your writing displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few basic complex forms. There are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors that can cause difficulty for the reader, such as subject-verb agreement issues in 'It cause', 'Body do not get', and 'smoking will effect body', as well as missing articles ('a person take smoke', 'person died') and incorrect prepositions or verb patterns ('government should banned it', 'government should need to make'). To achieve a higher band, you need to demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence structures and improve your overall control of grammar, tense consistency, and singular/plural forms.
