Student answer (Band 5.5)
Smoking is ingeriouse to health. It can cause serious illness like lungscancer, breathing difficulties, etc. It should be made illegal because we see that every another person smokes, especially young nation of age under and above eighteen. It is a very seriouse issue, because today many people die due to smoking.
I am 100 percent agree to this that smoking can cause serious illnesses and should be made illegal. When someone smoke like ciggerate, the smoke of cigerrate get into his lungs with air and it makes his lungs weak.It also cause infection in lungs which results in serious disease like "lungs cancer".Lungs cancer also cause death of person.According to doctors passive smoking is more dangerouse than active smoking. Now a days, smoking is considered as a fashion. Many types of smoking have been invented like ciggerates, vapes, pods, huqa, etc. Now vaping has become a fashion.Boys and girls both vaping as a fashion or trend but they do not know this fashion become dangerouse for their healths. They are unaware from this danger.
In my life,I saw person who smoke on daily basis. He do all types of smoking which results to a ingeriouse disease lungs cancer. His parents spent plenty of money on his treatement but he died.He lost his life because of smoking.
In my opinion, government should make all king of smoking illegal.Government should make polices to finish smoking from our country to make our country healthy.Police should arrest the dealers and salers of smoking materials.Police should fine the person who seemed doing smoking and give punishment to him.Smoking has become an important issue and we all have work together to finish smokin from our country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that smoking should be made illegal and supporting this stance with reasons and an example. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. While the personal example and the discussion of vaping as a trend are relevant, certain arguments remain somewhat repetitive and under-developed, preventing a higher score. The writer successfully conveys a consistent viewpoint throughout the essay, but the depth of elaboration needs to be more consistent across all body paragraphs to meet higher standards.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. Logical progression is occasionally disrupted by abrupt transitions between sentences, such as the sudden shift into the personal example in the third paragraph. Referencing is also not always clear, leading to moments where the flow feels disjointed. Paragraphing is used, but the internal connections within paragraphs require more skilful management and a wider variety of cohesive devices rather than repetitive structures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main message regarding the dangers of smoking. The writer attempts less common vocabulary, such as "passive smoking" and "dealers and salers", but this is accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, and word form, including "ingeriouse" instead of injurious, "ciggerate", and "treatement". These lexical errors and awkward collocations do not heavily impede communication, but they reflect limitations in precision and control that restrict the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures. However, there are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ("cause death of person"), subject-verb agreement issues ("Boys and girls both vaping"), and awkward phrasing in complex structures. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they occur regularly enough to prevent the sentence structures from being classified as having a high proportion of error-free sentences.
