Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally, as it falls well short of the required word count of at least 250 words, containing only 161 words. While a position is stated ('therefore I agree with him'), the ideas are limited and under-developed. The essay attempts to discuss smoking-related diseases and solutions, but the content remains repetitive and lacks sufficient extension, mentioning conditions like blood cancer and skin cancer without providing adequate supporting details or thoroughly exploring the extent of agreement with the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The information and ideas are not arranged in a fully coherent manner. Although there are some attempts at paragraphing and basic transitional markers such as 'To begin with' and 'Moreover', the overall progression lacks clarity and logical flow. Referencing is frequently unclear, seen in expressions like 'this type of problems is create difficulties for humans, As a result, people will die', which disrupts the logical connection between sentences and impedes the overall structure of the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing a limited range that struggles to convey precise meanings effectively. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'crucial diseases' instead of severe illnesses, and 'offers numerous illness' instead of causes numerous diseases. Furthermore, collocation errors and incorrect word forms like 'human use' and 'made to person die' strain the reader and restrict the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Grammatical structures are very limited, relying heavily on basic patterns with frequent errors that impede clarity. There are numerous issues with verb forms and tenses, subject-verb agreement, and unnecessary articles, such as 'smoking can causes', 'It is strongly believe', and 'in the all states'. Punctuation and prepositional patterns are also handled poorly, as demonstrated by faulty complex sentence attempts and awkward phrase construction like 'in all over the nations', resulting in meaning being frequently distorted.
