Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is widely debated that smoking is one of the major reason of causes disease and government should required to bane it.

Although some people argue that smoking provide temporary hapiness, I believe that it can lead to serious thread to human health and mainly younth generation suffers from it.

Firstly, smoking ratio is growing throughout the country and it cause various diseases as well as money being wasted. If government can't focus on this issues, it will change people good behavior to bad characters and can also nudging of community from literacy to illiteracy. For instance, in our country every person easily access to cigarette and others addiction without any restriction policy, it can create a vast majority of diseases and mental health issues.

Secondly, use of addictions cause a lot of diseases in every age of people, especially younger generation. It is scientifically proved that 90 persent lung canser caused by smoking. Government should required to take action over their and also apply high tariffs on cigarette dellers because it will boost of their prices, majority of our nation has poor community, if taxis imposed by administration then it would minimise the uses of addictions. For examples, if state implement 20 persent tax on smoking, their price rate would be directly high, so not every person want to invest money on their because of poor community.

In conclusion, although some viewers tilted to smoking that it can provide temporary relaxation, I strongly agree that state must control uses of addiction because it can cause a vast majority of diseases.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position agreeing that smoking should be made illegal. The main arguments are generally relevant, covering health consequences and economic impacts. However, some ideas are under-developed or unclear. For instance, the claim that failing to act on smoking will "change people good behavior to bad characters and can also nudging of community from literacy to illiteracy" lacks clear explanation and logical connection to the topic. Similarly, while the idea about imposing high tariffs on cigarette sellers is introduced, the reasoning regarding how it impacts the poor community is somewhat repetitive and lacks deeper extension. To reach a higher level, all ideas need to be fully developed with clear, coherent explanations and more robust supporting arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, maintaining an identifiable progression of ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The writer relies on basic cohesive devices like "Firstly," "Secondly," and "In conclusion" to structure the text, but internal transitions between sentences are occasionally weak. For example, referencing can be unclear, such as the pronoun use in phrases like "take action over their" and "invest money on their." Paragraphing is attempted, but the logical flow within paragraphs is sometimes disrupted by abrupt shifts in ideas. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that referencing is precise throughout the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate to communicate the basic meaning of the task, displaying a limited range appropriate for simpler discussions. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text, such as "bane" instead of ban, "thread" instead of threat, "younth" instead of youth, "persent" instead of percent, "canser" instead of cancer, "dellers" instead of dealers, and "taxis" instead of taxes. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but these attempts are often accompanied by inaccuracies in collocation and form. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they do cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher lexical band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though the range of structures is limited. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns. Examples include "major reason of causes disease", "government should required to bane it", "smoking provide temporary hapiness", and "if state implement 20 persent tax". Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent. While these errors do not fully obscure the intended meaning, they occur regularly and require the reader to decode the sentences. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over complex sentence structures and improve basic grammatical accuracy.
