Student answer (Band 6.0)
some people believe that smoking should be declared illegal because it creates searious health problems. I am strongly agree with their opinion becuase I believe that it leads to serious health issues and also makes problem for non-smokers.
The smoking is rapidy increases in a contemporary society, and it contributes to health problems in humans. Around the world millions pack of cigerates are smoked in a single day and people are going to highly addictive to it. It cause severe health disease such as cancer which is particulary more common disease in smokers. For example, In 2025, India and Pakistan was recorded average of 50 patients per day diagnostic with lungs and throat cancer due to excessive use of cigrates.
Moreover, smoking also effect the non-smokers. The smokers when exhale smoke and combination of carbondioxide that has significantly affect the inhaler standing neaby. According to some reports non-smoker have recorded with allergic and respiration problems which lead to death even they don`t touch the cigerates or other familiar things. For example, last year Adnan sanwal who had significantly touch with smoker friends, so due to greater contact with smoke he had has problem in their lungs and after a few months he died because of lung cancer. Therefore banning smoking would be appreciable step. Government should make some policy to declared it illegal as soon as possible because if they not stop it now, more and more people get addicted from it and it would be difficult to control.
In conclusion, smoking is noticeably create problems realted to health and it also result in problems to non-smokers. A complete ban could therefore helpful to protect public health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that smoking should be made illegal, supported by reasons concerning personal health and the impact on non-smokers. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which is characteristic of this level. While the health risks of smoking and passive smoking are introduced, the arguments tend to rely on generalisations rather than deep elaboration. For instance, the mention of India and Pakistan having an average of 50 patients per day diagnostic with cancer is a relevant attempt at support, but the details are somewhat simplistic and under-developed. To reach a higher level, the ideas would need to be extended with more sophisticated reasoning and precise real-world examples that fully explore the social and economic implications of a total ban.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing that the writer can structure a task effectively. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Therefore', and 'In conclusion' are used to connect ideas, though referencing is occasionally mechanical or faulty, such as the abrupt transition into the example about Adnan Sanwal. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate main points, moving logically from personal stance to health effects on smokers, then to passive smoking, and finally to the conclusion. To achieve a higher level of coherence and progression, the flow between sentences needs to be smoother, ensuring that cohesive devices are integrated naturally rather than mechanically grafted onto the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing enough range to communicate basic arguments about health and legality. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'contemporary society', 'addictive', and 'appreciative step', but these attempts often contain inaccuracies in word choice, form, or collocation, such as 'searious' instead of serious, 'cigerates' instead of cigarettes, and 'diagnostic' instead of diagnosed. Furthermore, there are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, including 'rapidy' and 'effect' instead of affect, which stem from a limited control of word forms. To improve lexical resource, the writer needs to expand their range of less common vocabulary and demonstrate greater accuracy in spelling and word choice so that the expression is more precise and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures with relative clauses and conditional clauses, such as 'if they not stop it now, more and more people get addicted'. However, these attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, and there are noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement and article misuse, such as 'The smoking is rapidy increases' and 'makes problem for non-smokers', as well as incorrect verb forms like 'was recorded' and 'he had has problem'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent enough to demonstrate only a limited range of reliable structures. To improve this area, the writer must focus on reducing basic grammatical errors and gaining firmer control over verb tenses, article usage, and sentence formation.
