Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: “I strongly agree” that smoking should be made illegal, and you return to this view in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons, including illness, harm to people exposed to smoke, and the influence of advertising and peers. The personal example of a friend who developed breathing problems also supports your argument. However, some points are asserted rather than explained: for example, you mention effects on society and the environment without showing their wider consequences. The discussion of why people begin smoking is relevant but does not fully explain why prohibition is the best response. Develop these ideas with clearer reasoning and consider briefly addressing a possible counterargument, such as personal choice or enforcement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a main paragraph giving reasons, a paragraph with personal experience and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow your overall position. You also use signposts such as “Firstly,” “Although,” and “In conclusion.” However, the main body contains several different ideas in one long paragraph, so the progression is not always clear. The shift from health effects to causes of smoking, and then to your friend’s experience, could be organised into separate paragraphs. Some links are mechanical or unclear, such as “The another reason,” while repeated references to smoking make the writing feel repetitive. Group related points and use clearer references and transitions to show how each example supports your argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “deadly diseases,” “cancer,” “environment,” “advertisement,” and “suppliers.” These choices make your main ideas understandable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “smoking,” “problem,” and “society.” Some inaccurate word choices and collocations make parts less natural, such as “very large problem,” “multiple affects,” and “bad company of friends.” Spelling errors, including “cigrates,” “strating,” and “paratical,” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range for discussing health and policy, and check spelling and word forms carefully. Using alternatives such as “tobacco use,” “health risks,” and “public health” would help avoid repetition.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “Although some are addicted…” and explanations using “because.” This shows an effort to connect ideas, but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur in examples such as “I strongly agree to made smoking illegal,” “it also make the environment pollute,” and “the smoking don't have a positive affects.” Some sentences also run together, as in the opening, where a full stop or clearer conjunction is needed. These errors sometimes make the reader pause, although your general meaning remains recoverable. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, and revise each sentence for a complete, clearly punctuated structure.
