Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify smoking as harmful, mentioning damage to the lungs and other organs and linking it to cancer. However, the response does not clearly answer the central question of whether smoking should be made illegal: there is no explicit position or discussion of reasons for or against a legal ban. The references to countries and young smokers are not explained or connected to the proposed policy, and the claims about education and population are unclear. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words, leaving little room to develop relevant reasons or examples. To improve, state your degree of agreement in the introduction, explain two relevant arguments, and support them with specific examples before concluding.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to group information: the opening refers to smoking prevalence, followed by a paragraph naming countries and another describing health effects. This gives the reader some sense of topic development. However, the ideas are not arranged into a clear argument, and the links between them are often missing. For example, the country names are followed by a claim about population and education without explaining how these factors relate to smoking or whether they support a ban. The final health claims do not lead to a conclusion about legality. Use a clear introduction, separate paragraphs for each reason, and a concluding statement; connect ideas with simple, accurate transitions and explain how each point supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

The response uses a small set of relevant topic words, including “smoking,” “illegal,” “cancer,” and “organs,” so the general subject is usually recognisable. However, vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and frequent spelling errors make several phrases difficult to understand, such as “somking,” “dengres,” and “acucted.” Some word combinations are also unclear, including “education ratio level” and “somking of drugs,” which do not communicate a precise idea. Build a more accurate range of topic vocabulary and check spelling carefully. For instance, distinguish tobacco smoking from drug use, and use clear phrases such as “smoking rates,” “health risks,” and “a legal ban” to express your ideas precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

You attempt to communicate several simple ideas, and the reader can identify the general subject and some health effects. However, sentence structures are very limited, and frequent errors in sentence formation, agreement, articles, and punctuation make the relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “In the world moslty countries of the people somke every day” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “Smoking destroy the lengs of every human” has an incorrect subject–verb form and an unclear construction. Capitalisation and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine related ideas with “because” or “which.” Check that each sentence has a subject and verb, and use full stops to separate complete thoughts.
