Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often believed that smoking can dangerously affect health and cause serious illness and it should be prohibited.I completely agree with this statement because smoking not only cause serious lung diseases but only negatively affect the health of people around smokers.
Due to smoking there are significantly high chance of lungs diseases, which can abruptly affect the overall health of an individual and cause some serious conditions, such as asthma, bronchities and lund cancer. In addition, cigrette contain nicotine, tar, which make people become so addicted to smoking that it becomes difficult for them to quit smoking. For instance, a recent study found that people often consume cigrette these day than in the past, particularly young children. As a result, people who consume cigrette everyday have a high chances to go through such disease that leads to frequent hospital visits and financial crisis.
Another reason why I agree with this statement is that passive smoking can be dangerous for people around smokers. Recent study found that pregnant women or old aged people may have a hight chance of developing disease, which may harm the newborn babies and the health of elderly people. In addition, it can affect todays young generation as well. Therefore it should be illegal.
In conclusion, most people believe that cigrette can cause illness and should be made illegal, I totally agree with this view as cigrette can affect lungs and may cause lung cancer as well and also it can be dangerous for newborn babies and elderly people becuase of passive smoking In addition, it is not beneficial for young people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I completely agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both the direct health effects of smoking and the risks of passive smoking, with relevant examples such as lung disease, pregnant women, newborn babies and elderly people. This gives the response a solid, relevant basis. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that cigarette use is increasing among young children is not clearly connected to why prohibition is the best response. The discussion also focuses mainly on health harms and gives little consideration to why making smoking illegal would be effective or appropriate. Develop the reasoning behind prohibition and support each example more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from direct harm to passive smoking is easy to follow, and signposts such as “In addition,” “Another reason” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages of the argument. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the conclusion repeats several points from the introduction and body paragraphs rather than synthesising them. Connections within the first body paragraph could also be clearer: the discussion moves from lung disease to addiction, then to children’s smoking and financial consequences without fully showing how each point supports the central claim. Use more precise referencing and explain the relationship between supporting details.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “passive smoking,” “nicotine,” “tar,” “lung cancer” and “financial crisis,” so the reader can understand the main ideas. However, the range and control are limited by repeated use of “cigrette” and “smoking,” as well as inaccurate or unnatural combinations such as “high chance of lungs diseases” and “consume cigarette.” Spelling errors, including “bronchities,” “lund cancer” and “becuase,” are noticeable and reduce precision. Some expressions, such as “affect the overall health” and “go through such disease,” are vague. Build a wider set of accurate health-related collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; this would make the argument more precise and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which” and “that,” and the main meaning is generally understandable. Some errors remain in agreement, articles, plurals and sentence boundaries. For example, “smoking not only cause” needs subject–verb agreement, while “there are significantly high chance” has an incorrect plural pattern. The opening has no space after the full stop, and the final sentence runs together without clear punctuation. There are also some awkwardly constructed clauses, such as “people who consume cigarette everyday have a high chances.” Review agreement and singular/plural forms, and proofread punctuation. More accurate control of these structures would strengthen the response.
