Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear overall view that smoking should be prohibited, and you provide reasons related to both environmental damage and human health. The discussion of heart and respiratory problems is relevant, and the conclusion restates your position. However, the response only partly addresses the central issue of making smoking illegal: most of the first body paragraph focuses on effects on birds and the environment, while the case for a legal ban is not explained in detail. The claim that people value smoking for its economic contribution is introduced but not developed or weighed against the health costs. To strengthen the response, explain why legislation is preferable to measures such as education or restrictions, and support each main reason with clearer, more credible examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Phrases such as “First of all,” “The other significant reason,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the first paragraph moves from air pollution to bird deaths and then to air contamination without clearly connecting these points. Some linking is mechanical or inaccurate, as in “therefore” and “furthermore,” and the contrast beginning “Nevertheless” is not fully developed. References such as “this” and “that” can also be unclear. Organise each paragraph around one main claim, then explain its cause and consequence in a clear sequence, using links only where the relationship is precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “detrimental health issues,” “cardio vascular diseases,” “respiratory system,” and “biodiversity.” This shows an effort to discuss health and environmental effects beyond very basic terms. However, the range is limited by frequent spelling errors and inaccurate or unnatural collocations, which sometimes make the meaning difficult to interpret. Examples include “individals,” “contiminated,” “losing their mate for the smoking,” and “vessels of hard.” Some word choices are also imprecise, such as “smoking leads hazardous problems.” Build accuracy by learning common collocations such as “smoking causes serious health problems” and checking spelling carefully. Prefer clear, familiar wording when you are unsure of a more advanced expression.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses with “when,” “because,” and “therefore,” but complex structures are often not controlled successfully. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in examples such as “Heavy smoking reduce” and “it become so hard.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent: “respiratory system.Young generations…” needs a space and clearer separation, while the long sentence beginning “For instance” joins several ideas without effective punctuation. Articles and sentence construction are sometimes missing or awkward, which can make the intended meaning harder to follow. Practise building accurate sentences around one main clause, then add a subordinate clause only when you can control its verb and punctuation. Proofread specifically for subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
