Student answer (Band 4.5)
Smoking should be band completely because it leads to various harmful diseases in human body. I completely agree with this statement because its affect disastrous on one body and suffered from suddenly death.
On the one hand, smoking is very harmful for body and suffered from many kind of disease like skin diseases, lungs issues and heart problems. It makes a suddenly death. However, i agree that the smoking is very harmful and the quantity of smokers rapidly increased day by day. For instance, passive smokers are affected as compared to the regular smokers. When the regular smoker sit in a group and they were inhale smoking with filter and other people inhale without filter and passive smoker is more affected.
Secondly, In my countryside government should made bu illegal because the individuals were smoking in public place and now the smokers are in under 18 and the ratio of under 18 people were increased. For example, the government should made illegal and banned

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You state a clear position in the opening—“I completely agree”—and give relevant reasons, including illness, passive smoking, smoking in public places, and underage smoking. These points show an attempt to address the question. However, the response is substantially under the required 250 words, and the argument is only partially developed. The claim that smoking “makes a suddenly death” is not explained, while the example about passive smokers is difficult to follow and does not clearly support the case for making smoking illegal. The final point ends unfinished (“the government should made illegal and banned”), so the essay does not reach a complete conclusion. Develop each reason with a clear explanation or example and finish by stating what legal measures you support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening position is followed by two body paragraphs, and signposts such as “On the one hand” and “Secondly” indicate a sequence. However, the progression between ideas is not consistently clear. “On the one hand” suggests a contrasting point, but the paragraph continues to agree with the position, and “However” does not introduce a clear contrast. The passive-smoking example shifts between smokers and non-smokers without clear referencing, making the comparison hard to follow. The second body paragraph ends abruptly, with no conclusion to bring the argument together. Use paragraphing to separate distinct reasons, connect each example explicitly to its point, and include a complete concluding paragraph.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “passive smokers,” “public place,” “under 18,” and “heart problems,” so the reader can identify the subject of the essay. However, the range is basic and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate enough to strain understanding. Phrases such as “smoking should be band,” “its affect disastrous,” and “suffered from suddenly death” do not express the intended meaning clearly. “Lungs issues” and “the quantity of smokers rapidly increased” are also imprecise or unnatural. Aim to learn accurate collocations for health effects, exposure to smoke, and legal restrictions, and check spelling and word forms. More precise vocabulary would help you explain your reasons without relying on repeated uses of “harmful” and “smoking.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few longer sentences, for example the sentence beginning “When the regular smoker sit in a group,” but most structures are simple and the longer attempts are frequently inaccurate. Errors in verb forms and agreement include “smoking … leads” followed by “its affect,” “the regular smoker sit,” and “government should made.” Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “a suddenly death” and “many kind of disease.” These errors sometimes make the intended relationships difficult to understand. Capitalisation is inconsistent, including “i” and “Secondly” after a comma, and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using clauses such as “because” and “which,” checking subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and articles.
