Student answer (Band 5.0)

In modern times, the issue of cigarette has become highly controversial. Some people say that smoking can cause serious illnesses and should be made illega. From my perspective, I largely agee this view and provide my overall opinion.

Generally speaking, there are two main reasons why I think this can cause serious illnesses. The first example is, when people smoking they can many issue on their health such as they can fase cancer. As a result, they can not spending quality time with their family. Moreover, weaste their money on their doctor and medicine. Some individuals smoke regularly, that's why they can not earn much more money.

From my perspective, it should be made illegal, because many public places some people smoking, as a consequences people can faces many problems, and environment has been polution. Furthermore, some people smoke on their home. As a result, their family and children can not live safely. I think the government should this cigarette should be band.

In conclusion, although, the government have profite this cigarette selling, but I argue that smoking should be made illegal because it can cause serious illnesses and somkers family and normal people can face many problems. The government should it's band on public area and the government should built a smking area.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You state a clear general position—“I largely agree”—and give relevant reasons, including illness, effects on families, and exposure to smoke in public places and at home. However, the task is only partially addressed: these points are mostly asserted rather than explained or supported with a specific example, and the argument shifts between making smoking illegal and restricting it to designated areas. The conclusion also introduces the government’s profit from cigarette sales without developing that point. The response contains 205 words, so it is 45 words short of the 250-word minimum; the nine words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop two or three reasons more fully and make your proposed policy consistent.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphs broadly group reasons about health and public exposure, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help signal movement between points. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the first body paragraph moves from cancer to family time, medical costs and earnings without clearly explaining the connections. Some transitions are mechanical, and the conclusion’s suggestion of a smoking area does not clearly connect with the earlier call for a ban. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s main point, then explain and support it in a logical sequence; use references and linking phrases only where their relationships are clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use a small set of relevant topic words, including “serious illnesses,” “public places,” “family,” and “government,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, vocabulary is limited and repetitive, and several inaccurate word choices or spellings make parts of the argument harder to interpret. Examples include “fase cancer,” “environment has been polution,” “government have profite,” and “smking area.” Some phrases, such as “many issue on their health,” are not natural collocations. Build a more precise range for discussing health and policy, and check spelling and word forms carefully. For instance, use established expressions such as “develop cancer,” “air pollution,” and “designated smoking area” rather than attempting unclear combinations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, including “because many public places some people smoking” and “although … but I argue…”. This shows an effort to connect ideas, but the range remains limited and complex attempts are often faulty. Errors in verb forms, sentence structure, agreement and articles occur frequently: “when people smoking,” “they can many issue,” “the government should this cigarette should be band,” and “the government should built” all require grammatical restructuring. Punctuation around the opening “although” clause is also problematic. Practise forming complete clauses with a subject and correctly inflected verb, then combine them using one clear connector. Accurate simple sentences will make your reasoning easier to follow while you develop more varied structures.
