Student answer (Band 5.5)

Yes, smoking poses serious threats to the life and health of individuals consuming it in their daily routine.

Many individuals on social media and in real life as well want that smoking should be made illegal. I am into their opinion 100% because the products which are being used for smoking like tobacoo, ciggerates are the drugs basically. Now a days, young boys and teenagers are becoming more addicted to it due to the accessibility of these products every where.

These drugs make people addicted and they completely reply on these products as their medicine or survival whenever they have any happiness and sorrow. The people make their mind that its the soultion of all their problems and are not even willing to quit this habit.

Smoking has dangerous effects on human life, like the Asthma some products contain carcenogenic material which can cause miuth cancer. As well as their is huge concern of passive smoking when non smokers gets affected or suffer from any disease when they survive between the smoke of tobacoo being used by active smokers.

For example, individuals suffering from this habit of smoking will try to get it by any method if they did not have money to buy. Crime rate like stealing or smuggling will be increased.

I heared a real case about an eighteen years boy who was addicted to smoking start stealing or humiliating his family when he ran short of the dose.

Therefore, the government or legal bodies should pay attention to the concern that smoking should be considered illegal as its destroying the future of pakistan. Specially, it will put a lasting and nver ending impact on the youth of pakistan.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you fully support making smoking illegal, and you give relevant reasons, including addiction, harm to non-smokers through passive smoking, and possible crime linked to dependence. The example of an eighteen-year-old who steals when unable to obtain cigarettes helps illustrate your point. This addresses the question, but some ideas are less fully developed than others. For instance, the claim that smoking should be illegal is not weighed against possible objections, such as personal choice or the role of regulation and education. The health effects are also named briefly rather than explained in detail. To strengthen the response, explain how each reason supports prohibition and develop the example with a clearer link to your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall arrangement: it states your view, presents reasons, gives an example, and ends with a recommendation to the government. Paragraph breaks help separate the main points. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, and connections between ideas can feel abrupt. For example, the discussion moves from addiction to people treating smoking as a solution to problems, then to health effects, without clearly signalling how these points build the case for a ban. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore” and “As a result” could clarify relationships, while a separate paragraph for the health argument would improve organisation. Some references, including “these products” and “this habit,” could also be made more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “addicted,” “passive smoking,” “carcinogenic material,” and “crime rate,” which helps communicate the main concerns. There is also an attempt to use more formal language, such as “legal bodies” and “lasting impact.” However, the range and control are limited by repeated or imprecise expressions, including “products,” “drugs,” and “smoking,” and several word-choice or spelling errors make parts less clear. Examples include “reply on” for “rely on,” “miuth cancer,” and “nver ending.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “survive between the smoke.” Build a more precise range of health and policy vocabulary, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with reasons and examples, so there is some variety in structure. The main message is generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and verb forms sometimes make the reader work to interpret it. For example, “Many individuals … want that smoking should be made illegal” has an awkward clause structure, while “non smokers gets affected” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “an eighteen years boy … start stealing,” the noun phrase and verb form are not controlled. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention, particularly where several ideas are joined together. Practise building accurate complex sentences, then proofread each sentence for agreement and tense.
