Student answer (Band 6.0)

Smoking is a hazardous health issue and it should be banned and made illegal. I agree with the statement that smoing can cause alarming illnesses among smokers

Firstly, smoking is not only injurious for only smokers individual but also it has a harmful impact on passive smokers who are inhaling the exhaled smoke from the smoker ones. People who are not into smoking habits are more prone to respiratory pathologies like coughing and allergies due to indirect inhalation of smoke from smokers. Also, it has a bad impact on environment also because it can increase in emission of gases that cause global warming and polluting the enviroment. In order to preserve the environment and preventing individual with harmful impact it should made unethical and illegal

Moreover, smoking has a very serious effect on health of individual who smokes frequently. The proportion of lung cancer patients has a skyrocket number in those who smokes on regular basis. It also has socioeconomical impact among smokers because the diseased individual will put burden on goverment healthcare system. Also, they will be restricted to certain activities which will effect their mental health also and can cause anxiety and other psychological issues. So, it should be made mandatory to prohibit smoking activities

In the concluive remarks, baased upon the arguements I gave in above paragraphs I agree that smoking should be discourage in individual because it has serious consequences that will have everlasting impact on peopl's life. So, in order to protect from these consequences smoking should be banned

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that smoking should be illegal, and the conclusion restates this view. You address several relevant consequences, including harm to passive smokers, environmental pollution, lung cancer and pressure on public healthcare. This gives the response a relevant basis and meets the task well. However, the support is uneven: the points about respiratory problems and healthcare costs are asserted rather than explained with a specific example or fuller reasoning, and the environmental argument is less directly connected to the question of serious illness. To strengthen the response further, develop the strongest health-related reasons in more depth and explain why prohibition is preferable to measures such as restrictions or education.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs beginning with “Firstly” and “Moreover,” and a concluding paragraph. The ideas generally progress from effects on others and the environment to effects on smokers and society. However, linking is sometimes mechanical, with repeated “Also” and “So,” and some connections between claims are not fully clear. For example, the shift from lung cancer to healthcare costs and then mental health is abrupt. The conclusion repeats the main position but refers generally to arguments “in above paragraphs” rather than synthesising them. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each supporting point explicitly to the paragraph’s main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “passive smokers,” “respiratory pathologies,” “lung cancer,” and “healthcare system.” These choices show an attempt to discuss health and social consequences beyond basic vocabulary. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “the proportion … has a skyrocket number,” “smoking habits,” and “made unethical.” Spelling errors, including “smoing,” “enviroment,” and “goverment,” also reduce accuracy and polish. Some phrases are unnecessarily formal or imprecise, such as “concluive remarks.” Aim for natural, precise combinations—for example, say that rates of lung cancer are higher among regular smokers—and proofread spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “People who are not into smoking habits…” and a reason clause beginning “because.” This provides some structural variety, and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, errors recur in sentence construction and agreement. For example, “it should made unethical and illegal” is missing an auxiliary, while “those who smokes” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. In “not only … but also,” the sentence structure is not balanced, and several sentences join multiple ideas without clear grammatical control. Work on accurate clause patterns, articles, and agreement, then check each sentence for a complete verb structure. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve clarity.
