Student answer (Band 5.5)

Smoking cigarette is harmfull for all kind of livings. Many individuals suggest that smoking cigarette should be illegal because it leads to numerious types of health issues. And as a native citizen i firmly belives in it but while on the other there should be some selected places for cigarettes.

In recent studies, it reveals that death rate of smokers have been increased. Smoking can caused different types of major health problems. Mouth cancer is also one of the most trending disease amoung smokers. In the very young age , individuals start smoking just to pretend that they are cool but they dont realize that, it can cause their life. For instance, children believe that inhaling smoking can leads to cancer so they stop inhaling from mouth but they don't understand that, they can still inhale smoke through their nose.

On the other side, some individuals including me also believes that there should be an different and isolated place for smokers and smokers should respect other's boundries. As some research also belives that , smoking can reduce depression level of an individual and also provide some relaxation from stress and anxiety. As a result of an survey, smokers community says that cigarettes can give them peace,d if they quit that habit they become restless and gradually lead towards mental problems. But that does not mean smokers can freely smoke in society. In society, there are different kinds of people lives, some are heart patient and some have asthama problems etc.

In conclusion, there should be an legal age for consuming cigarettes and Government should handle this with full care . In additon to that , there should be some desiginated places for smoking, and smoking in public place should be prohibited and everyone should act strict about this rule.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is generally clear: you support restrictions on smoking, while allowing designated places for smokers. You address health risks, young people’s behaviour, smokers’ claimed stress relief, and the effects of second-hand smoke on people with health conditions. These are relevant points, and the examples help explain your view. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully supported. For example, the claim that smoking reduces depression and that quitting may lead to mental problems is presented as survey evidence but is not examined or balanced against the health risks. The discussion of children misunderstanding how smoke enters the body is also unclear. Develop these points with more precise reasoning and make your degree of agreement explicit in the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting different considerations, and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps separate the health arguments from the case for designated smoking areas, and transitions such as “On the other side” and “In conclusion” signal the direction of the discussion. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening sentence of the second body paragraph shifts to smokers’ needs without clearly linking this concession to your main position, while “As a result of an survey” introduces evidence whose relationship to the preceding claim is not fully explained. Some references, such as “it” and “that habit,” could be more precise. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “health problems,” “depression,” “stress and anxiety,” “isolated place,” and “public place.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main ideas, but errors in spelling, word form, and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “harmfull,” “numerious,” “amoung,” “boundries,” and “asthama.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “all kind of livings,” “trending disease,” and “inhaling smoking.” Aim to learn accurate topic collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, use “people’s health,” “a common disease,” and “inhale cigarette smoke” rather than translating phrases directly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “but,” and “if,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, there are some recurring errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “Smoking can caused” should use the base form after “can,” and “death rate of smokers have been increased” has an agreement and tense problem. In “there are different kinds of people lives,” the clause structure is incomplete. Several sentences also join ideas awkwardly, such as the opening sentence beginning “And as a native citizen.” Practise building accurate sentences with one clear main clause, then add subordinate clauses, and check subject–verb agreement and article use.
