Student answer (Band 6.0)

Introduction;

Nowadays,smoking has been considered as threat for human life. Use of ciggaratte could cause severe health problems and it should be completely banned. I largley agree with this view because nicotine addiction damages peoples health and negativley affects those around them.

BODY PARAGRAPH01;

The main reason why smoking should be prohibited is that it can lead to life threatening diseases,such as lung cancer,heart disease and respiratory problems.despite being aware of these risks,many individuals contnue smoking owing to their addiction to nicotine.if this harmful habit were made illegal,fewer might start this unhealthy habit,which could reduce the number of smoking-related illnesses.So,it can be said that overuse of ciggaratte could have indigenous effects on the health.

BODY PARAGRAPH 02;

Another important reason is that tobacco use does not only harm smokers but also effects the health of others.for example,passive smoking can cause respiratory problems,paticularly among children and older people.Furthermore,people who smoke in public places may expose others to harmful chemicals without their consent. Although some people argue that individuals should have the freedom to make their own choices,this freedom should not come at the expense of other people's health.

CONCLUSION;

In conclusion,i largley agree that tobacco consumption should be made illegal because it causes serious diseases. A complete ban could protect society,although governments should also provide education and support to help smokers quit.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you largely agree that smoking should be illegal, and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons. You explain the risks of diseases such as lung cancer and heart disease, then address harm to others through passive smoking and public exposure. The concession about personal freedom also shows awareness of another perspective. However, some points are asserted rather than fully developed: for example, you say a ban would mean fewer people start smoking, but do not explain how it would be enforced or support this prediction with an example. The conclusion mentions education and quitting support, but this idea is not developed earlier. The response is 29 words below the required minimum, so there is limited space to extend these ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two focused body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from harm to smokers to harm to others is logical, and linking expressions such as “Another important reason,” “Furthermore” and “Although” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in connecting ideas. However, the paragraph labels and semicolon-style headings are unnecessary in an essay, and some transitions feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “because” and “So.” The link between the claim that a ban would reduce illness and the conclusion’s proposal for education and support could also be made clearer. Use natural paragraphing and develop smoother links between claims and explanations.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “nicotine addiction,” “life-threatening diseases,” “passive smoking” and “harmful chemicals.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions are attempted. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: examples include “ciggaratte,” “largley,” “negativley” and “indigenous effects,” where “harmful effects” is intended. There are also awkward collocations, such as “considered as threat” and “overuse of cigarette.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than more elaborate wording. Proofreading spelling and checking collocations would make your vocabulary more precise and reliable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure (“if this harmful habit were made illegal”) and a concession clause beginning “Although some people argue…”. These help express cause, possibility and contrast. Some grammatical errors remain, but the main message is generally understandable. For instance, “smoking has been considered as threat” needs an article and a more suitable construction, while “does not only harm smokers but also effects the health” has an incorrect parallel structure. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention, as in “respiratory problems.despite” and the run-on spacing around commas. Review articles, clause structure and punctuation, then proofread each sentence for complete, correctly joined clauses.
