Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response is relevant and gives reasons for opposing smoking, especially its effects on health and the environment. However, the task asks whether smoking should be made illegal, and the essay does not clearly state the extent of your agreement or explain whether prohibition is the right response. The conclusion instead recommends reducing tobacco consumption and regulating cigarette imports and exports, which leaves your position on a ban uncertain. The health discussion includes examples such as cancer and passive smoking, but some claims are unclear or insufficiently explained. To strengthen the response, state your position directly in the introduction and develop reasons that address the proposed law, including possible benefits or drawbacks of making smoking illegal.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction is followed by separate paragraphs on health and environmental effects, then a conclusion. This makes the main line of discussion easy to identify. You also use signposting such as “One of the major drawback,” “Another major disadvantage,” and “In conclusion.” However, some links between sentences are faulty or mechanical. For example, “and it is unhygenic the space” does not clearly connect the discarded butts to their effect, and the sentence beginning “furthermore” has an unclear relationship between smoke and air quality. Improve cohesion by making each paragraph’s point explicit, using clear references, and linking cause and consequence in complete, logically connected sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “passive smokers,” “nicotine,” “respiratory related diseases,” and “environmental pollution,” so the reader can follow the subject. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “awarness,” “continous,” “fat el diseases,” and “causes challenges to disadvantages”; phrases such as “the whole community” and “smoke over all contributes to air” are also imprecise or unnatural. Aim to use accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “public health,” “toxic substances,” and “air quality” can help you express the ideas clearly without relying on repeated general words such as “harmful” and “serious.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrastive opening with “Despite” and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “At result.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors in articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “cigarette contain” needs a plural subject or singular agreement, while “it may also causes” has an incorrect verb form. Several sentences begin with lowercase letters after full stops, and fragments such as “which means it is not only serious threat” are not properly attached to the preceding sentence. Practise building complete sentences with accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation before adding more complex clauses.
