Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response is relevant to the health effects of smoking and gives examples such as lung and oral cancer, risks during pregnancy, and harm to children. However, the central question is whether smoking should be made illegal, and you do not state a clear position on this or explain whether prohibition is justified. The opening discusses why people smoke, but this point is not connected to a policy argument. Several claims are listed rather than explained, and there is no conclusion that answers the question. To strengthen the response, state your degree of agreement in the introduction, develop reasons for or against a legal ban, and support them with clear explanations or examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: the response moves from why people smoke to effects on smokers, people nearby, children, and pregnancy. Linking words such as “However,” “also,” and “because” help show some relationships between ideas. Nevertheless, the progression is difficult to follow because the paragraphs do not build a clear argument about making smoking illegal, and the final point about infection is not connected to a concluding position. Several ideas are crowded into long sentences, while punctuation and spacing make boundaries unclear. Use a clear introduction, separate body paragraphs for distinct arguments, and a conclusion. Referencing each point explicitly and using transitions to show cause, contrast, and consequence would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “addiction,” “passive smokers,” “lung cancer,” “fetal circulation,” and “immunity,” which shows an attempt to discuss health consequences. However, the range is limited and many word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning hard to understand. For example, “being smoke” and “directly transmission based infection” do not express the intended ideas clearly, while “bad effects” is repeated and imprecise. Spelling errors such as “satisfiea,” “bineg,” and “pron” also reduce clarity. Build a more accurate set of phrases for discussing health risks and public policy, and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some complex structures, including conditional clauses such as “if it is not directly making sick anyone” and a reason clause beginning “because smoking can cause…”. However, these attempts are often faulty, and sentence boundaries are frequently unclear. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in phrases such as “a person who is smoker feel” and “smokers has low immunity”; articles and sentence construction are also inconsistent. Commas are often used where full stops are needed, creating run-on sentences. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses. Pay particular attention to subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation so that your ideas remain clear.
