Student answer (Band 5.5)
Somking leads to critical health issues and it should be not legalized by the government. I completely agree with the statement. The points explained in the coming paragraphs of the essay with suitable examples and conclusion.
To commence with, smoking give rise to diseases. The smoke that goes into the body is very harmful to people. It is dangerous not only to the person who is consuming it but it also affects the people who are near by that person because that near by people is also consuming it indirectly and at the same time it pollutes the environment. For example - If someone is near a person who is smoking, the other person also consumes the smoke as like as the person who is directly consuming it. And it affects the both people.
Another significant drawback is that it is the root cause of many life-threatening health issues. People should avoid it to stay healthy. Youths are addicted to smoking so , the government or organisations should create awareness among public. People lose lives due to many serious health problems. For example - lungs disease and difficulties in breathing.
In conclusion, the government should ban such kinds of products so that the youth could live a healthier and a happy life. The authorities should take different kinds of initiatives to stop the public from such kind of things. The government, NGOs and other organisations should create some awareness campaigns to stop youths from smoking. The nation should made it illegal and announce punishment it someone tries to do anything illegal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you completely agree that smoking should be prohibited, and you give relevant reasons, including harm to smokers and people exposed to second-hand smoke, as well as health risks to young people. However, the response only partly develops the task. The examples mainly repeat the general claim that smoke harms people, while the point about government action is introduced without explaining how a ban would work or addressing possible considerations such as enforcement. The conclusion restates your view but adds little support, and the opening promises examples and a conclusion rather than directly developing the argument. To strengthen the response, explain each reason in more detail and use a specific, relevant example to support it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the paragraphs broadly group related ideas. Connectors such as “To commence with,” “Another significant drawback” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the response. However, progression within paragraphs is limited: the first body paragraph moves from second-hand smoke to pollution without explaining the connection, and the second shifts from youth addiction to awareness and deaths without a clear chain of reasoning. Repetition of “For example” and “the government” also makes the linking mechanical. Use clearer cause-and-effect links and refer back to ideas precisely so the reader can follow how each point supports your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “life-threatening health issues,” “consuming,” “pollutes the environment” and “awareness campaigns,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices or combinations sound unnatural or imprecise, such as “critical health issues,” “near by people,” “as like as” and “such kinds of products.” Spelling and word-form errors, including “Somking” and “lungs disease,” are noticeable and reduce accuracy. Repeated use of broad words such as “things,” “people” and “kinds” also limits precision. Aim for more natural collocations and specific terms, for example “serious illnesses,” “second-hand smoke” and “tobacco products.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response relies mainly on simple sentence patterns, with a few attempts to combine ideas using clauses such as “because that near by people is also consuming it indirectly.” These attempts show some range, but errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Examples include “smoking give rise,” “it should be not legalized,” “the other person also consumes the smoke,” and “The nation should made it illegal.” There are also problems with agreement and sentence construction, as in “that near by people is,” and the opening fragment, “The points explained in the coming paragraphs…” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, verb forms and complete sentence structures before adding more complex clauses.
