Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you strongly agree that smoking should be illegal, and you give relevant reasons, including serious illness, treatment costs and possible deaths. You also address the proposed response by suggesting fines for buying cigarettes or smoking in public. These points answer the main parts of the question. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that most smokers develop lung or tongue cancer is very broad, and the link between fines and improved public health needs more support. Develop one or two reasons with a clearer explanation or a specific example, and acknowledge a relevant consideration such as personal freedom or the practical difficulty of enforcing a ban.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable overall structure, with an opening position, paragraphs about health effects and fines, and a conclusion that restates your view. This helps the reader follow the main argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first paragraph combines illness, costs, death and fines, while the second repeats several health points. Linking phrases such as “due to this,” “also” and “on the other hand” are used, but some connections feel mechanical or do not clearly show how one idea follows from another. Organise each paragraph around one main point, use pronouns or references clearly, and avoid repeating the same claims in the conclusion without adding a concise synthesis.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “vital organs,” “chemical treatment,” “expensive fines” and “health standards.” These choices show an effort to discuss health and government policy rather than relying only on very basic terms. However, spelling and word-choice errors are frequent and sometimes make the message difficult to interpret, as in “dangerouse,” “malicious ingrediants,” “spwnf” and “esposuer.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “double the problem to spend more money” and “make straight rules.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and choosing common, precise collocations. For instance, describe smoking as “harmful,” say that it “increases healthcare costs,” and refer to “strict regulations” rather than “straight rules.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You try to use both simple statements and longer sentences to explain causes and consequences, including a sentence beginning “because the majority of smokers…” and a conditional example about fines. This shows some willingness to vary sentence structure. However, many sentences contain errors in sentence boundaries, verb forms, agreement and articles, which can make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “it need to be stopped” has incorrect agreement, and “if the government make straight rules” does not use the appropriate verb form. Several sentence fragments begin with “which” or “due to this,” and punctuation is inconsistent. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement and use full stops to separate independent ideas.
