Student answer (Band 5.0)
Smoking it is the most deabating topic i have seen in the histroy. smoking has it's own pros and cons. i cannot say it has pros but for most of people it has pros but should it be made illegal which i will talk in coming paragraphs.
firstly we are gonna about cons. i know you guys why the cons but smoking has more cons then pros. So here we go, as we see the world has been smoking from couple of hundred years it gained differrent of froms. the biggest con it has that ratio of cancer patients have been increased. secondly the biggest con in my opinion is that our young youth is very facsinated by it. They think is as relaxent but they don't know that they are destroying our future population and environment. the third cons is gonna be the environment which can effect the people who don't even smoke.
Secondly i'm gonna talk about its pro. we can say that we don't have a single pro for it but it's wrong. yeah ik it is not good for the environment but the prople who smoke can have multipule pros for it. In my opinion the onlu i that people feel relaxed with they are to much stress it reduced the suicide ratio.
lastly i am gonna talk about that should be made illegal. in my opinion it should be because there are the heavy amount of the population that has been smoking from past couple of years. Make it illegal will cause alot of problem for the government and the main reason that the money that government making from smoking assessories and cigrates will stop.
In conclusion, leave the smoker as they are.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You discuss smoking’s health and environmental harms, possible benefits for smokers, and whether it should be illegal, so the response is relevant to the prompt. However, the position is not consistently clear: you say smoking “should” be illegal, but conclude, “leave the smoker as they are.” The ideas are also limited and under-developed. For example, you mention cancer and effects on non-smokers without explaining the consequences or giving a specific example. The claim that smoking “reduced the suicide ratio” is unclear and unsupported, and the government’s loss of revenue is raised without showing how it affects your view. State your position clearly from the introduction and support each main reason with explanation or a relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “firstly,” “secondly” and “in conclusion” help identify the sections. However, there is no clear overall progression because the essay moves from harms, to benefits, to legality without resolving the conflict between supporting a ban and ending with “leave the smoker as they are.” Some linking phrases are repetitive or mechanical, including “So here we go” and repeated “in my opinion.” References such as “the biggest con” and “the onlu i” are not always clear, which makes the argument harder to follow. Organise the body around a consistent position, use links that show cause and contrast, and make the conclusion directly answer the question.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “cancer patients,” “environment,” “population” and “illegal,” and you try to distinguish “pros” from “cons.” However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings make meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “deabating,” “facsinated,” “relaxent” and “multipule”; “smoking assessories” is also an imprecise phrase. Informal expressions such as “you guys,” “gonna” and “yeah ik” are not suitable for an academic essay. Build a more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations. For instance, use “health risks” and “second-hand smoke” when explaining the harms, and choose formal wording such as “supporters argue” rather than conversational phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some longer sentences and use basic connectors, but the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors are frequent enough to make parts of the argument difficult to understand. For example, “Smoking it is the most…” has an unclear subject structure, while “the people who smoke can have multipule pros for it” does not form the intended meaning clearly. There are also recurring problems with articles, agreement, verb forms and sentence boundaries, as in “Make it illegal will cause alot of problem.” These patterns affect clarity across the response. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine ideas using clauses such as “Although smoking may seem relaxing, it causes serious harm.” Check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
